has been received by Leon Mege. I spoke with Leon earlier in the week and briefly talked about what I want to do. Next week we are going to speak at greater length and finalize a design. I know what I want (I think) but am nervous that I won''t be able to properly articulate it to him.

For anyone that has worked with Leon on a custom piece over the phone and not in person, how was your experience? I''m quite certain that he doesn''t provide CADS of the design but does he offer a sketch or something similar? Or do you just tell him what you want and hope that it comes out like you planned?

Thanks

Hi, I am expecting my rings from him anyday. I have had no problems(so far) working with him over the phone and by email but I didn''t go complete custom, never been done before either. Once he receives your stone you go over what you want and once you finalize the details he sends you a work order with your instructions and you initial for approval or change the instructions then sign it off and send that with your deposit back before he starts. I''ll let you know how mine turned out once I receive them! And by the way, I never received any sketches but then I never asked and his stuff is handmade so there is no CAD involved. It wouldn''t hurt to ask for a drawing if it puts your mind at ease!

Thanks heb. Does anyone else know if LM has ever provided sketches for a custom piece?

I''m starting to think I don''t have the right demeanor for a custom job. I''m not sure I can stomach the process and uncertainty. Has anyone ever had the ring come and not get what they had in mind? Then what?

From what I have read on here the past few weeks, you might have a hard time working with him. Read crooked rock''s thread from "Show me the Ring" about her experience. There are some other threads about Leon Mege in Rocky Talky posted this week many of them complaining about being screamed at or not getting enough information. Was there a reason you picked him over WF to make the ring? Since you are getting the diamond from WF, I was just wondering if there is something he is doing for you that they can''t do? Anyway, good luck!! I hope whoever you use, it turns out beautiful!

Ooooooh, I can''t wait to see the finished product!

I''ve never worked with him myself, so I don''t have any advice to give you there. However, I''ve heard mixed reviews here on PS ~ some people loved working with him, and some people found him to be a bit of a diva. Good luck to you, and keep us posted!!!

I have read some of the negative posts about him of late. I have exchanged a few emails and spoken with him on the phone twice (once somewhat lengthy) and he has been nothing but a gentleman and quite helpful. I suppose I could just ask him about a sketch but I didn''t want to keep pestering him every time I think of a new question. Plus I kind of wanted to hear about some experiences.

As far as WF goes, they have some beautiful settings and their Harmony was one of my final choices. In the end, there is just something about the delicateness and flow of the LM pieces that works...for me. I am sure that either route ''i went would have made me happy but eventually I just had to make a decision.

I would suggest providing him with sketches, pictures, as much information as you can, so he can get your idea.

This makes a lot of sense. But having made your decision, I think you should just trust him to do a great job. You could drive yourself crazy worrying about it. At this point, I think you ought to just take the leap of faith that you are making the right call. (I know how you feel. I trusted WF to RE-CUT my diamond. I was worried but once I decided that I trusted them, I just went with it and felt it would all be okay. And it was.) I think there is an element of trust that goes with any designer. I mean, these people do what they do EVERY SINGLE DAY. They know their craft and they know what looks good and what doesn''t. Essentially, you have to convey what you want and then feel confident enough in the person you selected to just trust them. Personally, FWIW, I think CAD''s are highly overrated. No CAD I have ever seen comes close to being as beautiful as the final ring IRL. In fact, they usually end up causing a lot of needless anxiety regarding the prongs especially. (The prongs on CADS never look the way they actually do IRL. They are always so much prettier IRL). Good luck with everything! :-)
