This may have been answered before, but I searched and couldn''t find it. If a stone is ACA or ES, am I correct that it has been visually inspected and selected? So, if it were an SI stone, is it safe to assume it is eye-clean? I can''t imagine that they would hand pick a stone with obvious inclusions to be in the ACA/ES group. The reason I ask is, I would love to be able to just tell my BF "Use this website and choose from these two categories and you will be safe!" Still better to call and check? I guess I am trying to make the whole process simple for him, we''ve learned that is the best strategy when it comes to him buying me jewelry!

Thanks!

I think it''s definitely best to call and check. Eyeclean can have many different definitions so you should make sure to call and see if the stone meets *your* definition of eyeclean. Whiteflash actually has a blurb on their website about their definition of eyeclean.

Also, many people don''t mind a visible inclusion because it brings the price down so much, lets them know it''s theirs, etc. So just because it does have visible inclusions doesn''t necessarily mean it''s not "worthy" to be an ACA or an ES. In fact, some Pricescope vendors even stock I1 ideal cut diamonds! (I know a few posters have gotten great I1s from GoodOldGold.)

I prefer eyeclean, too, but to each her own! Hope this helps!

P.S. I would bet that most of the ACA and ES diamonds are eyeclean-but better safe than sorry!

Just because a diamond is an ACA or ES, it doesn''t guarantee that it''s eye clean. When your BF is choosing a diamond, he should ask WF if it''s eye clean. It''s just one additional question he has to asks. WF is great and I''m sure they can help your BF find a great diamond for you!

Best strategy is to call WF yourself, tell them you want an eyeclean stone and some idea of what you want in terms of color. Get the salesperson''s name (Leslie is great, from personal experience) and give him WF''s site, and phone number AND the salespersons name. If the rest is going to be a surprise, great... but set up the initial contact yourself.

I would always call to confirm an SI stone is eyeclean, no matter what brand it is or who is selling it.

Miscka,

While I''ll agree with my friends posts here (trust but verify), the trust part is not unreasonable. That is, I do believe (at least to me) JohnQ has suggested the WF in house diamonds can be characterized...with even SI2s being "eye-clean-ish." However, especially because, as Thing2of2 says:

some will be suited favorably by eye visible inclusions...best to ask than assume, absolutely...

No, you definitely need to ask if you are dealing with SI diamonds. Eye clean may mean from a certain number of inches, and it may be referring to the top view only. Do you care about seeing the inclusions from the side? If so, you need to specify that as well.

Ironic, I use that assume line all the time

I am actually not super picky about seeing inclusions as long as when people look at it that isnt the first thing to see. I guess I was thinking from sort of a marketing perspective, that in order to maintain a well-respected brand I figured they would pick and choose carefully. Oh well, I will tell him to call!

Thanks for all your help!

Miscka, also see this most useful thread here concerning the industry and consumers opinions of the term eyeclean.

Thanks to all for the input. Miscka, the ACA brand has cut quality as its highest priority.Having achieved that, we host options from SI2 to IF.Some people and cultures have a preference for extremely high clarities while others prefer a diamond with visible inclusions; seen as a birthmark.Similarly, there are those who prize the icy whiteness of a D and others who prefer the warmth of a J (or other). It’s all personal choice, with no right or wrong decisions. I think you'll find that top sellers are sensitive to every individual’s color, clarity, size and cut preferences - and we’ll be delighted to discuss particulars with you in person.

Thanks for chiming in, John. When it comes time, I will be in touch with you guys!

Here''s hoping it''s sooner rather than later
