I have been checking out some of the Whiteflash stones and really like the Expert Selection category. These get graded as 4 stars (or checkmarks) out of 5 for WF''s cut rating.

I couldn''t help noticing that if I open the selection up to the stones that aren''t in the ES category I get a lot more price fluctuation with stones that have some similar stats. However, they still have a 4 star grading.

There are no pictures available, so are these stones simply not ''inhouse''?

And, if so, how can WF guess that they earn the 4 stars?

Ofcourse, I am asking specifically because I like the look of one of them...

could I expect it to be as good as one that ranks the ES label?

Hi fisio,

Could you explain how you do that, I can''t figure out what stones you''re referring to.

I honestly advise sticking to WF in-house ideal cut (if you are looking at round) stones. The ES with pictures are in-house, although they might post a new stone occasionally before all the pictures are taken.

Ellen , on the page where you enter the stats of the diamond you are looking for--there are three rows, first row ACA, second row, expert selectioon, then there is one lonely box on the third row down that says "other shapes and diamonds" , when you hit that box you get lots of diamond come up, so I always assumed they were the virtual listed kind. Guess I have spent lots of time on that site, too! Fisiogirl--you can call them and ask every question in the world, they are very nice to deal with.

HA, thanks!

Yes,
Happy Anniv - that is exactly what I was doing!

I am spending too much time ont their website too....(anyone else find the diamond shape selection buttons REALY annoying!!!?? You have to kinda sneak up on them to get them to work!)

Can I assume then that most of these stones are not ''in house''?

I thought that I would post here first because they are a long distance call for me and I am still not entirely sure of my exact specs. I was puzzled by how they can assign a cut grade to them if they are not in house. Are they just guessing based on the certificate numbers?

I think if, for a particular stone, it says call for availability, it''s not in house.

They have some gooey rap on their site about what the categories mean, but if you call and ask why a 4 star was applied to a particular stone, I hope you''ll tell us what they say. It''s difficult to understand how they apply the standards they post at their site to their decision-making about star applications to out of house stones. I hope it''s good intelligence, but really can''t tell, myself.
