Finally picked out the ring for be beautiful wife to-be. I hope she likes it. She did''nt want a large diamond and she wanted round cut so here it is. I''m pretty nervous... I didnt think I would be haha.

.64 ct

Cut: Ideal

Color: F

Clarity: VS1

Depth %: 61.7%

Table %: 56%

Symmetry: Excellent

Polish: Excellent

Girdle: Medium

Culet: None

Fluorescence: Strong

Measurements: 5.51 x 5.54 x 3.41 mm

Its set on a 6 prong Tiffany Platinum ring.

I feel good about this but I am a little nervous in hindsight about the strong fluoresence. Is that going to be an issue or make it look fake?

Hi, Ashland! Your diamond sounds very nice! Did you ask the vendor if the stone showed any effects from the flourescence?
Please be sure and post pictures for us!

No i didnt ask. I purchased through a vendor online. I was so enamored with the cut/color/VS1 that I missed the fluoro. Man, that makes me nervous.

Call them and ask now.

Actually, can''t you just return it if you don''t like it?

It would have been good if you had run it by us before buying.

We would have told you to ask about the flourescence.

d''oh. I''ll call them soon. Figures after doing all this research since Feb I''d find a way to overlook something.

noooooo! don't return it. fluorescence is bootiful!

at least look at it before returning it.

Ash - it is very rare for even strong fluorescence to have an adverse affect on the diamond, but just to ease your mind call and ask. I agree too with Lady K it is most bootiful!

from a scientist''s point of view there is something very interesting about having a stone that glows periwinkle blue in certain angles of sunlight. my pear stone looks like someone plugged it into a light socket. people can''t take their eyes off it.

at Ben Bridge jewelers in the houston galleria I saw a salesman with a strong blue fluoresent pinky ring stone. i noticed it immediately, but then I knew what fluor looks like. What a stunner.

it''s too bad fluorescent stones fell out of favor due to much repeated misinformation.

That just makes them cheaper for those who love them

Anyway, Ashland, flourescence is not for everyone so you will really need to see the diamond in sunlight to see how it looks. Mine has only faint flouro. and still shines violet in sunlight so yours could be quite "purply." Some like it, some don't.

Don''t worry about Flour. it can be really cool and make the stone that much more beautiful.

The only reason it would be a problem is if it makes the stone oily or cloudy looking, and I understand it is rare. But I agree, there is nothing to lose by looking at it, other than the shipping charges (if he is dealing with a vendor who will give full credit for the setting).

Fluorescence, like clarity, is something that must be seen to be decisively judged. In most cases it is not a negative and many people find it an attractive quality.

Is this a GIA graded diamond Ashland? If it was graded by a softer lab, some fluoro may actually help with face-up appearance. If it's a GIA F it won't need 'help,' and you may or may not be able to detect it - depending on the diamond itself and the amount of UV in differing lighting conditions.

In any event, don't worry needlessly. Speak to the vendor about your concern, but you will be able to judge this yourself: There is UV in sunlight, so view it outside and see what level of fluoro makes itself apparent (I assume this is blue fluoro). You can see the degree decisively by exposing the diamond to UV light/blacklight like you'll find in many dance clubs. I call this the boogielight test. It's my favorite for viewing diamonds with fluoro. Maybe because they serve cocktails.

Here is some PS info on fluorescence: http://diamonds.pricescope.com/fluor.asp

Wow, thank you all for your input and support. I tell you it is a little nerve wracking for me (in a good way)

I contacted the vendor and they took a look at it and said there was no detriment to the stone in terms of milkiness or cloudiness. I'm very excited about the uniqueness of this diamond!

I will post pics as soon as I can. I plan to propose in mid august so keep me in the back of your minds!

God bless you all!

Jazmine,
have you ever posted pics of your rock up here? I would LOVE to see the purple tones of it in the sunlight!!
