Well, here we go!

I'm a bit disappointed. Of my 80+ students, only a handful are voting. They're in college, and most of them say they just don't care. And THEN, the ones who do care, believe that their vote doesn't count anyway so why bother?

That is disappointing Haven. I confess to thinking the same thoughts over the years but I still always vote no matter because it is a right and responsibility and so very important, So sad that all young people don't feel the same.

I couldn't vote! The line is too stinking long!

It's 7 here, and the line is at least 3 hours long. The polls are supposed to close at 7. All the people in line at 7 will get to vote, so that means the count won't be final until at least 10.

They loaded up our ballots with a TON of long winded BS constitutional amendments, which are like a convoluted book to read, and no one (apparently) read the sample ballots they got in the mail. So each person in my dorky state is taking at least 20 minutes to vote. I'm pretty sure it's all on purpose.

This is the first time, since I worked so hard to become a citizen, that I haven't voted.
:nono:

That really sucks iLander! I am so sick of all the darn lines for everything!!! Gas, voting, what's next? Bread and milk?? Ugh, lately I am feeling like we live in some 3rd world country. Very depressing. In the future may I recommend voting by absentee ballot. It seems like that is gaining a lot of popularity and no lines guaranteed! (Not sure where you live but they have extended the time period for voting in certain areas due to the hurricane).

Worked an 11 hours shift today, polls closed right at 7 pm when I was getting out. My boss wouldn't let me leave to vote on break!

It does feel like Romney is going to win though... :blackeye:

3 - 13 Electoral votes..

Verdy, just to let you know it is illegal for your employer to not allow you to vote. Unless that is a state law I am thinking of?

If you are going with the first few states who are secured on who wins, you may be surprised by the end results.

I really have no idea...I asked for an extended break but they just kept putting up ifs, ands, and buts. So I just decided not to argue. I do feel bad since it was my first chance to vote though. Next time! This is nerve wracking :errrr:

iLander...that is terrible!!! We had early voting in my state for a couple of weeks before the election. I went last week and voted with NO line!!!! Soooo much better!

Verdy...that was just plain wrong! Do you usually work 11 hours???

It was meant to be a 10 hour shift, and I was counting on that last hour to maybe get my vote in..but then a co-worker begged me to cover an hour for him...and me being me said yes :(sad

CNN calls it for The Big O.

i agree, DF!
time for them to take a look and decide what is more important and who they want to appease to win elections.
their current strategy has not been successful.
however, the dems need to shape up and grow a backbone and stand together rather than the divided mess they've become.

That was fast.

It's almost over. Yipeeeee.
I'm just glad we didn't have a repeat of 2000.
With all the technology we have, elections are still a cluster.

There are lots of local races in which your vote counts. The candidate I work for lost by about 3,000, and some of his cohorts at the same level lost by as few as a couple hundred. In many cases, local races have more impact on your life than national ones! WHY DO PEOPLE NOT REALIZE THIS? URGH. I mean, in Texas, the state legislature voted to slash education funding by over 5.4 billion dollars, which has resulted in the closing of eleven public schools in my city alone, and in increased class sizes (over the constitutional limit) in around 80% of classes. Whether or not you agree that is right, there is no doubt that it is LOCAL politicians who did it, in some cases who scraped by on victory with only two dozen votes. It's really sad though that there's very little information out there on local races and local politics, so people think there's nothing that matters to them when really there's just quite a lot that they don't know about.

Most of the candidates on our ballot were Republicans, unopposed, and they were going to win no matter what. It is like my vote didn't count at all since Texas is solidly red and there doesn't seem like there is anything we can do about it.

Ann Richards was our last Democratic Governor and she was AWESOME!

Anyway, O just mentioned the disabled in his very last sentence and I'm going to hold him to it....hope it won't be the same old, same old with the House and the Senate.

Missy, I know you don't mean it this way, but "like we live in some 3rd world country" is kind of insulting, no? I hate net nannying as much as anyone else here...I wonder if you could re-phrase?

I voted early. My husband ran for local office. He campaigned for over a year. We bought a house, got married, had a baby in the past year. We are hopeful that things will turn around. We happen to be mere peons in the grand American scheme but would have absolutely no problem leaving this country if we don't see hope and change as promised.

The only thing I have to say about the result is how much it makes me laugh to see conservative voters who are disappointed start threatening to move to Canada or Australia.

Let me know how that goes. Australia: land of the unmarried, atheist female prime minister. Mandatory government medical coverage. Living assistance for single parents, older adults, students, heck, even regular families! Relatively high taxes. Unopposed abortion access. A population majority that openly supports marriage equality. A nearly complete ban of gun ownership.

I think it might be like a Californian upset about the failed marriage equality movement threatening to head for Mississippi.

Edited: monarch, you were writing at the same time I was and I wasn't targeting you with this post - I was referring to some of the threats I've seen on FB and Twitter. :))

Verdy - I'm so sorry your boss wouldn't allow you time to exercise your civic duty. Shame on him or her!

TIme off for voting laws vary by state. Some stated have no such laws, some require employers to give employees time off, some require that time off to be compensated.

I actually voted on before I went to work yesterday - practically a first for me, since I've gotten into the habit of voting after work. I have to admit I loved the feeling of knowing I had voted, and of wearing that silly little sticker! And I love showing up at the polling place and seeing so many others there. Still, I'm thinking of signing up for a permanent mail-in ballot. After an election as important as this one, the thought of not being able to vote because of some unexpected circumstance is kind of frightening!

Just for fun I want to post a picture of my mom's Obama dress. I contacted PS to see if I could post it ( political), but they never wrote back. She made it herself and I think it's cute so here goes.
