I need some help with finding a big wedding dress store around boston, greater boston, north shore, south shore etc. I want to go to a store that carries like a pretty big selection (ie. has a lot of dresses) of like Mori Lee, Mon cheri, maggie, casablanca, allure, and alfred angelo. I am only in town for a few days and wanted to only make one or two stops for dresses so my FMIL can see some on me. Can anyone recommend a big store that carries some of thos brandS?

You could check out Bridepower to see what they have: http://www.bridepower.com/VisitStore.ASP

The Designer Bridal Outlet is currently out of business, but maybe someone knows if the ladies are re-opening. Its the only place I really tried on gowns and they were fantastically priced with lots of sizes. Good luck to you! Oh, and don''t got to Bride and Belle in Medford, unless you want a prom dress. They keep coming up in website searches as having stuff, but they are close to my house and then had nothing from any modern collection. Think Casablanca, but from the 80s. Don''t waste your limited time. Nice people and they can order...but that defeats the point of going to try on, right?

Oh man I heard so many good things about designer bridal outlet i guess thats a no go when did they go out of business? I will have to check out bridepower. I just would love to find a biiig store so you really have stuff to chose from!

If you don''t mind a trek up to Nashua, NH, check out Marry & Tux Bridal. I got my dress off their sale rack but tried on some Maggie S., Alfred Angelo, and I think a Mon Cheri. I think ZoeBartlett got her dress there too. Marry & Tux Bridal

Thanks Selkie...do they have a big selection? Is the store pretty big?

It's not a HUGE store, like a David's Bridal, in fact when you go in it looks tiny because you enter on the main floor, a small area with mainly prom dresses. But then you go downstairs, and it's quite a large room, with a bunch of dresses on mannequins and walls covered with racks. I thought the selection was really good and they had a lot of nice dresses in my size (16-18), which I didn't find at other salons. They did have one dress in particular that I had found online, but couldn't find ANYWHERE near where I live (in SoCal), which is why I made an appointment in the first place.

ETA:
I can't find ZoeB's wedding dress thread, but she really liked her sales associate, and she's been there more recently than me. Hopefully she'll catch this thread and chime in.

Yes, it is a bummer about designer bridal outlet, I just called the number I had for them and no answer, same for the number on the site which hasn''t been updated since december...but I had heard that Joanie (one of the owners) was now selling dresses out of her basement. Which sounds sketch, but I would still do it for those prices and her eye for what looks good on you. Oh, I hope that someone has more details than I do and can get you the info on what is going on.

Everyone here seems to go to Yolanda''s for the tryons, but I went with a bodaciously bootied friend and she was made to feel less than excellent about her lovely curves so we fled mid appointment and went to get ice cream. The Altered Bride is currently being reorganized, yikes, your timing in coming to Boston is not excellent. This one has good reviews: http://allegriabridal.com/

I am considering going to PoB but there are only a few dresses there that would fit into my price range. I was looking for stores that really carried some middle of the road dresses in terms of pricing. Thank you for all your information I will be sure to check it all out. I would totally go and buy a dress from someones basement for those prices they are unreal!

I got my dress at Yolanda''s in Waltham. Don''t let the super-cheesy appearance turn you off when you walk in. (Think white painted metal and Astroturf). Their selection seemed decent to me and they carry some middle-of-the-road lines, I believe.

I''ve lived in Boston for maybe 5 years, but was temporarily living in Kansas City while engaged, so I didn''t do any dress shopping here, but if I DID, I would definitely go to Vows...(they are the ones who host bridepower) and I would second Lurchie on Yolanda''s. They have a good selection of dresses and have a good reputation. I would also try L''Elite on Newbury. They carry several of the lines you mentioned and have a good reputation as well. I''ve heard some great and not-so-great things about their tailoring, but the selection is good.l

definitely hit Pricilla''s as previously mentioned... its the bridal shop for Beantown...

I''m here! Good memory Selkie! Yes, I got my dress from Marry and Tux in Nashua (right up the road from the Pheasant Lane mall near the Tyngsboro border). I''m going there tomorrow, actually, to pick up my wrap that just came in.

Selkie''s right -- it looks like a teeny tiny store, but they do have more to choose from than you''d think. Just head downstaris to their bridal section and you''ll see lots of stuff. It''s nowhere near as big as Davids (which is also in the area) but there''s a good selection.

They also have tuxes, which is good if you''re thinking of going that route. We''re actually getting ours through Men''s Warehouse (near David''s), but it is an option.

Anyway, the customer service is really great and I''d definitely recommend them to anyone. The only downside is that they''re pretty picky about not letting you take photos until you''re at the point of buying something.

There''s also another place I''d recommend, but it''s a little further away than you''d like probably. It''s called Modern Bride, and it''s on Route 101 in Bedford, NH. A little more off the beaten path but not too far from 93. It has a bra shop in front of it, Top Drawer, and they''re great too.

Just to warn you, I didn't have a great experience with Yolanda's. They do have a good selection, though.

I went one day specifically to try on the Jim Hjelm dress that I ended up buying. But when I tried the dress on, the girl that was helping me mentioned a Monique L'huillier trunk show the next weekend, so I didn't buy the dress and made an appointment to come back. When I came back, I tried on the MLs, and the Jim Hjelm again. The girl I think then expected me to buy the dress, but my mom wasn't there and I kind of got cold feet about not having looked around enough. She started pressuring me and then got very upset and kind of rude about how I wasn't ordering the dress that day. I'm sure it depends on who you get, but I didn't not have a good experience there.

And Yolanda is a VERY scary woman herself!

ETA: And their prices for the dress were $300-400 higher for the same dress than a different shop in Rhode Island, and $700 more than Pearl's place, where I ended up ordering the dress from.

Hi Al! Hope all is well.

My good friend went to Vows once with her friend who was getting married and had a good experience. I didn''t do any dress shopping out there, so other than that, I don''t know a thing.

And I LOVE the Mon Cheri you posted recently. That would look fab on you.

Thanks Callie I really love it on me!
