Hi,

So I am thinking of having a "Tiffany-like" 7-stone shared prong round diamond wedding band made by Whiteflash to accompany my EC set in simple solitaire. Then I saw a very similar ring at Facets/Signed Pieces for less money and about the same specifications. Cost difference is several hundred dollars. What would you do? Is Facet/Signed Pieces up to the quality of Whiteflash or vice versa? I''d love to get the actual Tiffany ring but it''s cost prohibitave.

Then, 18k w/g or platinum? I know this question has been done to death. I love the feel of platinum so much but am worried about it becoming an ugly "gray" tone that I don''t like. I don''t think the w/g would age to quite the gray tone of the platinum. Cost on this is not issue. It''s all about aesthetics. I''d get the plat. in a minute if I wasn''t worried about the gray toned metal look of the platinum. For those of you with platinum, can you tell me your experiences? I only know white gold and I wouldn''t mind having it redipped since I''d likely be having the platinum polished...

help!

thanks,

jeannie

I just got my signed pieces wedding band, and the quality is impeccable. I would have no hesitation buying from them again.

Personally, I''d go for platinum because I don''t mind needing to have my rings repolished. It''s not a huge deal for me. What''s your ER?

Having purchased from both I would highly recommend Whiteflash.

While I have heard that the metal work can be cleaner by SP, I found the diamonds better from WF and WF has a far superior Customer Service (incl aftersales).

I''ve had ACA melee, and my wedding band is by signed pieces and I don''t see any difference in the sparkle of the melee personally. They''re both lovely. And we really like Isaac and Pawel at SP. I''d go with SP.

Re: platinum. My preference is platinum, but I don''t mind the patina. What is your e-ring made from? I would probably just match that.

Well, my e-ring is a new ring and it''s set in a simple white gold solitaire that can be changed in an instant to platinum. I am trying to post some pictures for you to see but it seems I just deleted all the lovely photos I took of the ring today. Argh!! Many of you here helped me pick this out and I want you to see it!

I like the Tiffany 7 stone shared prong ring and Whiteflash will make it for me. Signed Pieces ring is quite similar but the Tiffany ring is "open" underneath the stones (and looking at it from the view of being on the finger) (I''m terrible at describing things) while the Signed Pieces ring and also the Memoire ring I admired are both "closed".

Is it true that the patina of the platinum tends to go gray while the patina on the white gold doesn''t? I''ve no frame of reference, having never had platinum. The quality of the stones will be ACA Whiteflash, and F/G color, vs clarity on both. I love the heaviness of the platinum but just don''t like a dull gray finish. So when they are repolished, do they gain their original shiny lustre??

I have a shared prong eternity band from SP that I am thrilled with, and an ering and stone from WF that I am thrilled with. I don''t think you can go wrong with either.

Jeannie, SP do have a 7 stone with the open gallery like Tiffs. Here''s the link: SP .93ct 7 stone

As I have listed, it is the .93ct version, so I don''t know if that is the size you wanted. Here''s a pic:

Oooh, that''s exactly what I am looking for! "Open gallery"...why couldn''t I come up with that description? It''s exactly right.

Why do you think WF would be so much more? Because it''s a custom piece? Just curious.

White gold doesn''t turn grey because it''s generally rhodium plated. As long as you plate your ring once or twice a year (or possibly less often) it will always appear white - and if the rhodium does wear off, the ring will have a slightly warmer tone. If you don''t like the grey look of platinum, it''d make the most sense to go with white gold.

I love the style of ring you picked out!

i have had my platinum polished and it brings it right back to good-as-new-gorgeous. with shared prong, i would personally go platinum for the extra durability - for me it''s worth the extra peace of mind. (if you care to learn more about shared prong and it''s durability, and opinions relating to this with wg vs. platinum, do a search and you should come up with a few threads).

if you plan on wearing your platinum rings all the time and subject them to everyday wear and tear, yes they will acquire the ''patina''. polishing is easy though, and from what i understand with platinum no metal is lost with scratches and wear and polishing, it''s just rearranged. with white gold, metal is lost and worn away over time. something else to consider! (again, there are some threads on this too, just search for ''patina'' and you''ll get some pics and opinions).

and if you do go with platinum, definatly change your setting to platinum or the wband will wear away the white gold prongs!!

Thanks, all, for your input. I decided to take the plunge and go platinum. I can always repolish the thing if it turns too "gray-metal" for me. I decided on the 7-stone Tiffany-like ring to be made by Whiteflash.

I am going to find the old thread on ''my ring'' and try, again, to post a few pictures of it.
