Website Creation Tools?

So, back in the day, with the advent of the Apple Macintosh, everyone and his brother became a publisher.

Today, probably it is similar with respect to website creation.

To my talented friends on-line...are there any No Brainer resources (Weebly, Google, Intuit, Go Daddy?) you would recommend to go from zero (no web address, probably benefiting from pre-designed templates, wishing inclusion of a blog) to being set up, using a do-it-yourself approach, wishing for sustainability, low cost, and not too much homework?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Bluhost. They are inexpensive, you get your domain name for life, and they have a lot of tools that help you set up a lot of things with one click. (Like Wordpress, shopping carts, etc.)

Thanks MP.

Your suggestion motivated me to scope out (again?) CNET, and nothing is jumping out at me there, as even the right category to check.

Did you stumble upon Bluhost, and are happy with it, or did you do a substantive search first?

It seems once you get started with an option, it''s preferable to stay with it. I''m hoping to take a modicum of care.

How did you find that one? It seems like there''s a lot of options...

I design web-based stuff for a living, and I recently heard about a tool that looks really powerful for anyone who wants sleek design and built-in functionality without needing to bother with code. It''s called Squarespace, and there is a demo on the web site that gives a great overview. If it''s as cool as it looks, it might put me out of business! Good luck.

My husband built his own website from scratch, it is one from Lunar pages. He is not tech savvy, but has found much easier to use than some of the more expensive ones like coffee cup.

I use a very old software program - Dreamscape! I love it.

I''d give Wordpress a look. You can set up a personal blog right there at Wordpress.org, and skin it, and check out all the admin tools. That way you can decide if it''s too hard or not, and then have it hosted if you decide to go further. You''re not terribly clear on what exactly you''re wanting this for...personal? Business?

I'm actually on hold right now with my Internet Service Provider (ISP - Comcast). I think I get a certain amount of storage, and that this can be probably configured one of several ways:

1) a) get Domain name, b) build website with tools and c) host on service I'm already paying for. I'm guessing this is the most cost effective, and maybe also labor intensive

2) go through a web hoster that incidentally helps with web design

3) I'm guessing Bluehost and others front load help with web design, and incidentally offer help with the rest, plus tech support.

Most likely I'll benefit from #3, but it's good to know your options.

KSinger, you asked:

It's nice to have options. The basic idea is that it's personal, so far as I can see, and where I'd intend to provide information I've found important about the coincidence of two communities of practice.

Previous threads have discussed personal styles. I'm INTJ. It's natural for me to study consumer reports, and to think I've done some due diligence before jumping in, thus this thread.

Thanks,

I actually did a lot of research first, RG. I browsed around, looked at reviews, asked people that I knew had domains hosted, and Bluhost was on top of the list for most. I also liked how inexpensive it was. I used to be on cyberpixels, which was just as good, but will eventually cost you an arm and a leg to host a domain that gets a lot of traffic. If you know you will eventually be pulling in a lot of unique views (or at least hope so!), then Bluhost is your best bet I think.

MP, many thanks. I''ll review the others here, too, but I did peek yesterday at Bluehost, and saw it appeared on some top 10 list.

Comcast looks like it will be at least a bit of a pain, despite potentially being free...and probably not findable, if anyone is looking for what I would post.

Thank you, Regular Guy! One of the most helpful topics I ever came across in the Hangout. (Next to Kenny''s advice about teeth whitening).
