Reading this forum I drool over the gorgeous jewelry and how large many of the diamonds are in rings, on ears, on wrists, etc. I assume that in New York it is just " normal" to see such beauties in the streets so my general question is...how "safe" do you feel wearing the jewels in public.. running errands, .shopping, etc?

:(sadHonestly, it’s not like the old days, where you would see tons of sparkle. I’m in the suburbs and people are not wearing too much. My friend and I have been having these conversations for a while now. People are wearing to weddings, events, but not everyday errands IMO.

I wear mine daily. And feel comfortable as long as I'm aware of my surroundings. Strange robberies are going on in my community right now.

I suppose it depends on the crime statistics in your area. I live in a city in the UK. Apparently the crime rate for muggings is going down in my area. I personally feels safe walking around my home city wearing a 3.7++ diamond eternity band and 5.6++ diamond tennis bracelet daily. I do not wear flashy clothes with labels or wear designer hand bags. My most precious jewels are, of course, insured.

I don't feel my safety is in danger. Even so, I mostly keep my "good" ring in the safe and just wear my everyday smaller diamond. No good reason. Sometimes I just wear a gold band. Depends on what I'm doing with my day. I agree with @babs23r. People aren't showing a lot of bling out and about as far as I see.

Most of the people I know do not wear their "big bling" on a daily basis. They wear it if they're going out for an event or to dinner, but not really while walking around on the streets. If you're rich enough to not worry about it an wear your big stuff daily, you're not walking around on the streets. Your driving and parking valet and not worried about it.

I wear my 1.5 ct color volcano nearly everywhere and feel pretty safe.
But I'm aware theft, or worse, is possible.
Therefore once in a while I'll feel the need to spin it around so the rock is is inside my hand.

While it gives some people peace of mind insurance can't prevent violence.

That's true about violence, @kenny . After my big fall last month, I think my rings are more in danger from ME. Luckily I didn't land on my hands, although not so lucky on my knee and elbow, haha. I would have been angry at myself if I wrecked jewelry. Priorities, right? :eek2:

I wear mine everywhere, but I keep them hidden until I get to wherever I’m going.

I hope you are on the mend and feeling better @lyra. I love your new avatar of your sweet baby.

Pricescope has really wrecked my view on what I consider large. I see women wearing engagement rings in the 2 to 2.5 carat range all the time at the grocery store. Rarely larger than this if they are out running errands and it's usually just engagement rings they are wearing.

I believe in being aware of your surroundings. Bad things can happen where ever you are.
