I am so thrilled. But it has barely sunk in.

My FI will become husband and wife on Wednesday August 26th this year.

I am just amazed that he finally, after many tears and tantrums finally decided to get on with it.

I have NO idea what to do next. Well, I do but it is proving tricky. We are having a low key civil ceremony in the Poole Guildhall registry offices. The venue itself is beautiful and is a great historical building here in Poole. It is located in the old town area, surrounded by cobbled streets and right by the quay, one of Poole''s most beautiful features.

We have the ceremony booked which is great.

The next step is finding a location near to the quay for an informal wedding party. We are doing away woth tradition and not having a formal reception, although we may have a family meal after the ceremony.

I just hope we find somewhere, otherwise it might be a party in my Mum''s back garden!

Dress shopping is going to be a nightmare due to my tastes, requirements and size. I am considering having one made for me.

Congrats on the date. So exciting!

I''m so thrilled for you! Enjoy the planning!!

Congratulations! That''s soon, 5.5 months! Have fun planning.

Indeed it IS soon, but we would rather just get it done now as we have waited so long to set the date.

As it will be a low key wedding, it won''t take as much meticulously detailed planning so we should be fine.

Do you gals have an helpful hints/tips to keep me from going insane over the next few months?

Congrats!!

Advice? The Knot has a decent budgeter and time-line thing (to-do list). Don''t freak out though, when it tells you you are behind!! It seems I am always behind on that thing. I have 36 "overdue" things on my to-do list still.

Good Luck, and you know where to come to vent/question etc!!

Congrats on setting the date!! I think that was the hardest part!

Merry,

Congrats!!! I guess you should pick 3-5 things that your fiance really like/want and just focus on that. There''s a lot of resources to DIY stuff out there. A lot of ppl do DIY paper stuff (invites, programs, escort cards). Also DIY favors are pretty common too. I''m DIY flowers, it should be fun.

Since you''re doing low key it should be pretty fun to get stuff organized. If I remember correctly your color scheme is black & red, right?

Congratulations on setting the date!

Lliang - Yes black and red is what I am going with!

I ave a very strong idea of what I would like for my dress. I just need to find a dress maker who is willing to make it for me for a good price!

I am looking forward to making the invitations myself.

We are having a DW and then a celebration of our marriage at home. I just refer to it as our party, and that makes me feel less stressed by it. Also, make a list of what you want and don''t want now. That way when people start saying "But you have to do/have X! It is your wedding!" you have a reminder of what you did and didn''t want from the get.

Also, I highly recommend you either get your dress made or look at BM dresses. It was hard for me to find a white dress without embellishments, and I think that color dresses would be even harder to come by. Go custom and never look back. Plus, it is time efficient--you don''t have to spend all that time looking. And, given that your date is soon, most bridal designers would charge you a rush fee, eating up your budget.

Good luck!

How exciting! Best wishes!

YAY, congrats merrymunky, thats very exciting news

Congrats on finally setting a date. Good things come to those who wait!

Congrats on finally setting the date! That''s wonderful! I know setting the date for me finally make it all seem real!

As for the dress I definitely think you should have something custom made if you can find someone to make it in enough time. I would LOVE to have a dress custom made for me! My e-ring is custom made and it just feels so cool to think that there isn''t anything out there that looks *exactly* like it. If you can go the custom route to get exactly what you want with a dress I say go for it!

Congratulations, Merry. I am excited for you. My mom made my wedding dress and it turned out lovely. I hope you find someone who will give you a reasonable rate.

Congrats, that''s great news!

Well, thank you so much everyone.

It still seems unreal and I have been feeling all happy tearful a few times today.

Progress so far:

Ceremony/registrar booked

Potential party + afternoon family mean venue viewing tomorrow. Very cheap too considering. So a definite possibility.

Possible contacts coming for dress making service.

At least 2 bridal salons I am considering visiting to try on traditional gowns and see what styles suit me. (One of them being where the contacts for a dress maker may come from - my sister in law''s best friend works in the studio)

Cake maker contact from my sister in law. She is going to do some sweet talking to her cake maker friend!

Step brother possibly can provide a car for the day. He works in a car showroom...bonus!

Let''s just hope things run smoothly from hereonin!

Congratulations. Small simple weddings are the best to plan, less people trying to tell you what you need to do.

Congrats on setting the date... yippeee skippeee!!!!!!!!!!

I have been researching local dress makers and have come across two potentials that I like the sound of.

Here is the main inspiration for my dress.

I would like the top half to essentially BE this but with the button holes and pin details replaces with something else. I envisage the bottom half being either red with the black lace underlayers, or the red falling away at the sides to make way for a black lave front panel.

Very gothic inspired and very me!
