Well we certainly didn't expect that to happen this morning when we woke up! We had gone to look at The Jewel Box (an estate jewelry store in Dallas) last week and saw 2 rings we liked. We had asked for them to send us pictures but apparently they didn't have a camera in the store so they convinced us to come back down and look at it again this weekend. After much thought and consideration we decided to take the leap and buy it!
We paid cash and since we didn't expect to purchase it today we hadn't stopped at the bank before hand... so we run over to the bank to arrive 15 minutes past closing. We then spent the next hour trying to take a good chunk of change out of the ATM... easier said than done. Even though we had more than enough in our accounts, we had to deal with restrictions on the ATM and our accounts. I called customer service and had them up my limit for the day but then when I tried to withdraw the money all at once (or even in two increments) it kept stopping me for "suspicious account activity" so we had to take almost the entire amount out in $100 increments.... one of the most ridiculous and time consuming things I've done in a while.
I'm not going to post pictures until the engagement, but its a 3 stone emerald cut diamond ring in platinum. The stones are a little warm, but I actually like the character of warmer stones. It's a really nice size for my little fingers too, just the right amount of finger coverage. We also got a really great deal on it! My mom gave us an old watch and charm bracelet that she had from way back when that she actually doesn't like at all and they allowed us to trade them in for $900 of credit on the ring so the whole thing cost less than $2K which was like half of what our original budget was.
We're really happy with it, SO is going to pick it up later this week (it had to be resized a tiny bit). The proposal won't be this month or anything, but probably sometime this fall, I'm in no hurry. SO asked me not to tell my friends we bought a ring (he wants it to be a surprise for all of them still) so all I can tell are my PS friends! Had to get it out!
