So my friend's FI proposed on the 4th of July with a .38 ct RB diamond in a temp setting. It's a very pretty stone, but small. Her FI said they could pick out whatever setting she wanted together. They are just now starting to look at settings and all the various options. I told her I would ask here what she can do to make her smallish diamond look bigger. I already suggested a halo, but she does not like them (too blingy for her, if you can believe it!). She wears a size 6.75.

So what things can be done to make a small diamond appear bigger?

Sidestones or no sidestones? 3 stone settings? Thin solitaire settings? 6 prongs perhaps? 4? I know a thin setting is generally recommended (2mm or even less) but on her larger finger that might disappear.

Thanks!

bezel setting with a thin 2 mm shank/band.

I have a small-ish diamond and the halo really works wonders...

no halo, no sidestones.
Only a very thin engagement ring will make it look bigger.
The stone could be set high, but many people don''t like that.

Maybe a delicate micropave band to add a little extra sparkle to draw the eye in?
