hi this cross was just casted in gold last week can the dings on the corners still be fixed after casting? i was told that after casting its harder to fix and it may make the gold "wavy"
any opinions is appreciated, pics of the dinged corners is in the pic below (note it has already been casted in 14k gold its not in wax form anymore)

anyone

Disclaimer - I''m guessing here. I doubt it will be a problem because usually the wax is slightly bigger than the end piece will be, as they have to do polishing and things of that sort to the final piece. I''m guessing it will be fine. Have you asked your jeweler?

Yes, it can be fixed in metal. It’s just easier to do it in the wax. Whoever is doing the finishing work on the casting should know just what to do. It’s not even all that hard.

thanks guys, when getting dings out of metal do they add gold to the ding then shave it off or how does it work if you happen to know?

Both. It’s a little hard to tell just how deep they are but there is going to be some finishing required after the stones are set to get rid of the tool marks used during the setting process and this may be sufficient without any additional metal. If not, they can weld a small amount of gold onto the corners and then finish that down to where you want the final surface to be.

Can they weld onto gold or do they use solder?

It depends on the skills and tools of the jeweler and, to a lesser degree with the specific alloy used in the casting. I always preferred welding for this sort of thing just because it avoids any possible issues with color matching and I just find it easier to do but soldering a little bead on and then finishing from there will work fine.
