@Bron357 so pretty and unique! Thanks for sharing
Thank you for doing this!!! I think the traps need to be more tapered, you? Did you like the size?
Not really. I think your center stone won’t quite steal the show. I’d vote smaller/thinner traps OR baguettes. Have you considered this look? The size of the emerald cut appears to be similar to yours and (IMO) the baguettes really make it pop.Thank you for doing this!!! I think the traps need to be more tapered, you? Did you like the size?
Are your traps being recut?@ILikeShiny I do love that look but I want to use my current traps. I just need to nail the size and taper, ugh!! My head is spinning because I can’t get these CADS right.
I think you may need to add a mm to the main stone end. Just a guess but yes, I think you might be looking for more taper. Obviously that would mean current traps are out.@ILikeShiny I do love that look but I want to use my current traps. I just need to nail the size and taper, ugh!! I know this has been a long journey for you so I doubt you'll like what I'm going to say but here it goes anyway and I mean it in the best way possible...
While I understand you wanting to re-use your traps to save on cost, it seems kind of silly after all you've spent on the stone and how much you'll be spending on your dream setting to then "settle" for recut traps that may not be *perfect*. Since you seem to be waffling on setting choice and size/taper of the traps, I think it might be a good idea to actually set your stone in a very simple, cheap setting for now so you can learn more about her. After you wear her, you'll know just how different she is from your previous stone and what kind of coverage you really want (either all around or just on the sides) and you could maybe put aside more money for new traps that are the perfect ratio. Just my 2c but someone has to put it out there!
current traps will work because they are quite a bit largerI think you may need to add a mm to the main stone end. Just a guess but yes, I think you might be looking for more taper. Obviously that would mean current traps are out.
I like the 5x3. Would have to see the difference between the two sizes next to your EC to be sure. Thanks all! So this is the deal on the traps...they are too big for my liking now so I really have the power to cut them down to any size. And I know Jean Dousset, as well as Leon and possibly Victor all custom cut their traps. Finding the exact size of traps pre-cut could take forever and that's why so many cut their own to the exact desired proportions. So in actuality, having my own that are larger is quite nice because I have the ability to cut them to whatever I decide on. Just have to be sure on size... it sounds like I need to make the call on proportions because David and Amy don't seem to be that exact.
As far as waiting, I really want to move on from this project. I have loved Eva's setting for sooooo long and want to go for it! I wavered on the halo because I didn't make a huge jump in size but it is what it is!! I think I will also regret a halo as it would hide my beautifully cut EC. And I could always go that route in the future. Quite frankly...keeping my traps and just adding the pave isn't costing me much and I will end up with my dream setting for at least a couple of years.
So at this point I need to nail the size of the traps, like I said, I have 6.2 by 4.8mm traps currently. And David's original thought was to go to 4.5 by 3.5. Maybe 5 by 3?? Thanks again for all your feedback, I love this site so much![]()
I should email Amy and David right away to have them make me a wax of 5x3! They are so busy and communication is a bit hard with them.I like the 5x3. Would have to see the difference between the two sizes next to your EC to be sure.

Hi, @Winks_Elf! This is so good to know! So, just to clarify, is that .5-1mm over-all or away from each corner of the EC's table? (meaning, top and bottom or just the total measurement of the table's length minus .5-1mm?)Personally, I'm a huge fan of the 3-stone emerald and trap look with delicate claw prongs. The trick to getting the ratio right is the longest facet on the trap should be about .5 - 1mm shorter than the length of the emerald's table facet.
Yesssss!! This is the size I think exact!! Thank you!
You’re welcome! Most of my appointments for the day were canceled so it was fun for me to have something creative to do to pass the timeYesssss!! This is the size I think exact!! Thank you!
Yes to the first two, no to the third; those traps aren’t as angled.

I think “Eva’s” is more tapered and then Jean’s website example is more square. I will have Amy make both and see what I think. But both definitely smaller than what I had so my EC should stand out more! Glad I could fill your day with some diamond fun and thank you again!!Yes to the first two, no to the third; those traps aren’t as angled.
I love tapered settings so ILikeShiny's suggestion of tapered baguettes would have definitely gotten my vote! But the 5mmx3mm traps do look amazing with your current stone. Looking forward to seeing the wax model(s)!You’re welcome! Most of my appointments for the day were canceled so it was fun for me to have something creative to do to pass the time
If this is what you want, ask them to make the traps taper from 5mm to 3mm; that’s what I drew. The width is also 3mm.
I am not a huge fan of halos on diamonds, but you should do what feels best to you. It tempting to try and push towards the emerald cut with traps (Ive got two I like the design so well) and you clearly like it as well based off your avatar. Still there is a third option to confuse the issue a bit more, you could do a different style of halo. (Bottom would be my favorite of the four.)
