I was at the store the other day and saw the jeweller dropped 2 diamond rings and a pair of earring studs into one metal basket, soaked them for a few minutes in cleaner solution then steammed the whole thing altogether in the wire basket. Is there anything wrong with this picture?

The professional steamer is very strong. By steaming them all together in small wire basket, don''t these diamonds rub against each other and therefore scratch each other? I know diamonds are tough but is it a common thing that jeweller do? Should he/she steam each item individually with a tougue?

Not really...doesn''t sound like problem...even though the steam stream is strong (say that 6 times quickly) it probably doesn''t present a problem.

Sound like it''s a normal practice.

I am used to see diamond individually wrap and stored. The only time they are toghether is when they are sold in parcel of mostly small stones.

Professional steamer is not that strong. I''ve cleaned my wife''s ring under the steamer using my bare fingers. It looks and sounds stronger than it really is. I''m sure it''s a lot stronger than those home units, but if you''ve played with one, you really wouldn''t worry about damaging most jewelry with it.

If that were an ultrasonic cleaner, I''d worry, but other than that, it seems okay.
