I'm a Michigander too...not from Warren...but it is also known for it's large Polish-American population. It is a large suburb, but Elle is right, Michigan is a gorgeous state and has lots of interesting places to visit and things to see and do, so if you are transferred to MI, don't worry too much!We Michiganders don't bite. (Hard)...LOL.![]()
Where would you be moving from? Just curious!

Another suggestion is to explore this site a little:
puremichigan.org
It has a lot of good info about our beautiful state! Yes we sometimes get a bad rap, mainly due to bad press about Detroit itself...but Michigan on the whole is a great place to live.

I know Warren very well. Lived there from 1959 to 1978 and used to work for the City Attorney there. It''s definitely blue collar. Diamonds less than one carat.
Many third generation Poles and Italians.
Most people worked in some aspect of the automotive industry and many have lost their jobs. The real estate business there has an expression, the ''warren
ranch''. 1000 square feet three bedroom one bath homes. Warren starts at eight mile and continues to 14 mile rd. The houses get nicer as you move away from
eight mile rd and by 14 mile rd. there are some very nice homes. There is a lot of shopping and you are within driving distance to some very upscale areas like
Grosse pointe, Birmingham and Bloomfield hills. It''s also convenient for getting to Detroit. Despite Detroit''s rep there is still great theater there as well as Comerica
park which is where the Tiger s play. Great sports fans in Michigan.
The school systems are good, but not great. To work in Warren you really don''t have to live there. There are a dozen other nice suburbs within driving time
of 20-50 minutes. Both our kids still live in the area. One in Beverly Hills and the other in Washington Township. Due to the auto industry the housing market is
weak. A first time buyer can get a great house here for under $250,000.
The people are hard working and friendly. Michigan is in the process of reinventing itself due to the decline in the auto industry and it could be a very exciting time
to be here. It''s beautiful here. We have the great lakes after all. You''re never far from the water. Last winter was very cold and snowy. Typical summer weather is
Hope this helps. Feel free to ask questions.in the75-85 degree range and in winter 20-30 degrees. Autumn is beautiful with the color changes.

Lulu- I used to live in Beverly Hills!!! My mom still does. Lots of people don''t know of it...
I like MI. The weather now is bad but the summers and spring and fall are really nice times for weather. Sorry to say it but MI winters are NOT fun! Lots of snow/slush/sleet... It totally depends on where you are for the winter in MI- It''s sooo cold in E.L. but in H.S. when I was closer to Warren it was much warmer.
I second the fact that you don''t have to live in Warren to work there. There are tons of places to live around there like Madison Heights (i babysit there) and also Royal Oak is AWESOME. Shopping is great there as well as in Birmingham and in Troy.
If you can, I know the Birmingham public schools are pretty highly ranked and always have been. I think they are going down a bit but they used to be nationally ranked as some of the best schools in MI...

Hi,
We moved to Michigan(Northville) a year ago from western Ohio. We are Pittsburghers so climate, people are similar. We really like it here! But today, October 1st, I actually had to scrape ice off of my windshield(with a cd case) before I took my kindergartener to school. ssaaayyyy whhhatttttt? I know we have more temperate weather to come before the chill but I thought that was kinda crazy. We''ve been downtown to theatre and sporting events, to Auburn Hills for a Disney ice show, to Frankenmuth to ''Bronner''s'' famous Christmas store, to Lansing to check out MSU for my daughter, to Ann Arbor to checkout U of M for my daughter....It''s a beautiful state and I am headed north with a girlfriend for a fall foliage day(as hubby and kids can''be be bothered) in the next couple of weeks. Where I live, property taxes are much higher than where we came from, but public schooling is very good, and sports are too. We left a very blue collar community so I enjoy the variety of restaurants(not chain) and shopping in our area.![]()
I live in a fairly affluent area and have only seen a couple of honkers....but even our B&M mall stores have some lovely goodies I like to peruse when I am shopping...
Good luck! I think we are here to stay if the auto industry survives. Hubby works downtown and doesn''t even mind that.
That said, Go PENNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats elle--- I hope you have a beautiful day!Date: 10/1/2009 4:38:17 PM

I saw this post the other day and didn''t get a chance to reply until now. I currently live in northern Warren. I grew up on W.Bloomfield and DH is from Clinton Twp. and this was our happy middle. We''re close to two of the major expressways and it''s easy for me to commute to and from work. We do live in a typical ''Warren ranch'' and it''s a great first home. Our plan was not to stay longer then 10 years because I''m not egar to have our kids go through the school system here. There are many other surrounding areas that I would rather have our kids educated in. As some mentioned... Royal Oak is a fun town and Birmingham is very trendy with lots of shops. Michigan is a beautiful state. I know there is a negative vibe when you hear ''metro-Detroit.'' But outside of the city (which does have a few nice areas) it really is a pretty nice state and there are lots of things to go and do.
BTW... if anyone decides to put a Michigan GTG together, I''m game!!) Not a huge MSU/UofM fan either way but I''ll take some HOCKEY any day!!! Go WINGS!!![]()

Oh yeah... and the very important diamond size question! I have just over a half carat and that''s pretty typcal around here. Head over to Birmingham and Troy... and you''ll see some major bling.Yummy!![]()
