Hi,

We moved to Michigan(Northville) a year ago from western Ohio. We are Pittsburghers so climate, people are similar. We really like it here! But today, October 1st, I actually had to scrape ice off of my windshield(with a cd case) before I took my kindergartener to school. ssaaayyyy whhhatttttt? I know we have more temperate weather to come before the chill but I thought that was kinda crazy

. We''ve been downtown to theatre and sporting events, to Auburn Hills for a Disney ice show, to Frankenmuth to ''Bronner''s'' famous Christmas store, to Lansing to check out MSU for my daughter, to Ann Arbor to checkout U of M for my daughter....It''s a beautiful state and I am headed north with a girlfriend for a fall foliage day(as hubby and kids can''be be bothered) in the next couple of weeks. Where I live, property taxes are much higher than where we came from, but public schooling is very good, and sports are too. We left a very blue collar community so I enjoy the variety of restaurants(not chain) and shopping in our area.

I live in a fairly affluent area and have only seen a couple of honkers....but even our B&M mall stores have some lovely goodies I like to peruse when I am shopping...

Good luck! I think we are here to stay if the auto industry survives. Hubby works downtown and doesn''t even mind that.

That said, Go PENNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I grew up in northville! I moved away for college and haven''t been back (well, for more than a few hours that is :P) but I''m really glad that Northville was my hometown. We didn''t live in the affluent part of town, and dealing with all the snobs was a bit obnoxious, but I definitely benefited from the awesome schools and safe town. Glad you are liking it there!

OP: I agree with everyone that says to work in Warren you don''t have to live there - I would say that the majority of people who work in white collar eastern Wayne county don''t live there. I''ve lived in Michigan my whole life and I can''t imagine living anywhere else. We are currently west MI transplants (GR) - the whole state is just gorgeous once you get out of metro detroit. If you do end up moving to MI, I urge you to look at the western suburbs like Farmington, Plymouth, Novi, Northville, even Brighton if your husband doesn''t mind a bit of a commute. The schools are just as good as to the north but the cost of living is a bit lower :)

EEEK! I grew up in Northville too...but probably way before you did! Still have family there, but we live out further (west of Oakland County!).

I agree, great place to grow up! And avoided snobs too.

I have been in Michigan all my life, at the moment I live in Warren but moving this next summer to probably Troy or Shelby area.
Warren is a nice place, as long as you north of 11 mile.

My daughter will graduate from Warren Mott High this summer 2010 whiich is the Warren Consolidated school district which she has been attending since first grade.
They have been awarded the blue ribbon exemplary school award.

Warren is a good area, nice people, good neighbors lots of shopping, restaurants etc. hockey is huge as well as football and baseball. There are alot of excellent cities in Michigan to live easy commuting, the winters can be rough if you''re not used to them but if your going to live in Miichigan long, you''ll adjust fast!

Another suggestion is to explore this site a little:

puremichigan.org

It has a lot of good info about our beautiful state! Yes we sometimes get a bad rap, mainly due to bad press about Detroit itself...but Michigan on the whole is a great place to live.

Mini threadjack: Oooh anyone else get so sick of those puremichigan commercials though? The music drives me crazy.

Oh, not me! I grew up in Michigan, and now live in Georgia. Those commercials made me homesick!
