Hi everyone,
I''ve been using this forum to learn more about how to buy a diamond. I started out looking at Tiffany''s and other stores in the local mall. Now I am more towards buying the diamond on line and buying the setting from a jeweler. I have a few questions:
First the one to do with the title I''ve read about the possibility of a " warped diamond" were cutters put differing crown angles on different parts of the diamond thus the best angle qualifies the stone for a higher cut and also gives a higher HCA score but this is not really reflected in the beauty of the stone. This is even more important for online diamonds. Would a GIA/AGS/sarin report give an average of these angles or just the best?
Second I''ve heard that AGS and GIA labs are more accurate than EGL and that EGL tends to be more generous in their grading - therefore I have been somewhat suspicious of jewelers who tend to have alot of EGL, IGI, AGA graded diamonds. On the other hand I have also heard from the local jewelers that these problems are only related to the Israeli EGL. Is that true or does the Americal EGL also tends to over grade their diamonds.
Third if I decide to buy my diamond online and the setting from a local jeweler - who should set the diamond? and who should service it?
Thanks you all for your time, experience, and help.
