I know color perception is relative but I was just curious... when do you think a color in a diamond isn''t "warm" but "dingy?" I saw a K this weekend and that to me was definitely warm and not dingy. Are L''s dingy? M''s?

I think it depends a lot on the cut. I''ve seen Js that look dingy to me and I love warm stones.

ditto

Well yes, cut will make a difference but I''m guessing no matter how well cut a Z is, it''ll look dingy?? Even Y''s?

I think even higher colors can look dingy if poorly cut. My k doesn''t look one bit dingy.

I have a large L and it is definitely not dingy. I have seen lower colours than that, also not dingy if the cut is good. I think a ' dingy diamond' may be because of mediocre to poor cut quality, rather than the colour grade.

Just looking at your last post, do you mean brownish when you say dingy?

Hi Lorelei, yes, by dingy i mean brown.

Brown diamonds... mmmmmhhhh

I think it all comes down to cut - a well cut stone even with a brownish tinge should look very lively.

I love the lower colours except in melee with coloured stones when you really need the white.

I have a very blingy K. No dinge.

Depends on how well cut.
