Just curious - what are the major differences/benefits of a cool mist humidifier vs. a warm humidifier? (other than the temp, of course!)
I’ve noticed our LO has been waking up slightly congested and I figured a humidifier at night might do the trick.

A cool mist is what most pedis will recommend because its safer. There is no difference in the two besides the temp. Both are effective in humidifying the air and by the time it reaches your LO, it''s the same temp anyway (typically room temp).

Cool mist are safer for toddlers or older babies who may get near the unit. However, warm mist actually boils the water so you''re not spreading bacteria and fungus.

With JT, we used a warm mist when he was very little. We had a cold farmhouse and the cool mist would make it much colder. Also, part of his congestion was caused by allergies so the doc recommended doing the warm mist to reduce allergens. I turned it off until he was in his crib because it does get very hot.

We only use a cool mist now just to add humidity to the air throughout the winter months.

Thanks for the feedback! Since it''s cold where we live, we''ll probably go with the warm one for now. Once LO gets a little older, we''ll switch if needed.

we have a cool mist. Not worth the risk b/c I have a little trouble maker.

ditto. we purchased a cool one for the nursery. the ones that they market as baby ones [crane ones] are all cool mist if i recall correctly.

We got a cool mist one. It really helps him with congestion.

You do have to rinse it with vinegar every day and bleach solution once a week to make sure it doesn''t get swampy.

DD - does that hold true for both cool and warm machines? I''m going to purchase one today. Poor LO is very congested

Yes, use vinegar at the very least. I vinegar once a week. No bleach for us. There should be cleaning instructions with any humidifier.

Do you ladies have any recommendations on which to get? I am trying to get one to but don''t know which one! Thank you!
