Would a K color AVC show alot more warmth than an H color ? Should I choose size or color ?

What size difference are we talking? AVCs seem like old stones to me and *I* like them with color...but thats just me.
I believe a K will show a fair amount more tint than a H. Maybe you can get Jon to do a video of the two stones together
to see if the color difference will bother you.

I have a K AVC and have compared it to a friend's I and another friend's H. There is definitely some warmth to the K. I absolutely love the warmth and think it gives the stone some life and character, but there is no getting around the fact that there is noticeable difference between a K and H/I colored stones.

A K is a K. A K will show some tint unless you have particularly poor vision.
It won't look "yellowy" or "dingy" or any of those other rather unflattering descriptors, but it will also not look white white white. IMO plat will emphasize the colour because it's such an icy metal - the slight tint of the stone will stand out more.

I would go for the K - I, like tyty, think cushions are just supposed to be lovely and creamy and antique-y in colour but if you want a colourless stone choose the H.

It really is a matter of personal preference, the tonal difference between the two should be distinct to most people when viewed side-by-side under normal lighting; however would be less noticeable if the two diamonds were viewed and compared based on "color memory" - which is to say that people are less apt to notice the body color of a diamond when they are not directly comparing the diamond next to another diamond of different color...

As I recall, Jon shot a video awhile back demonstrating the color difference between a few diamonds... that might be a good place to start, it's probably in his online video library.

I had an L color AVC - and although it was a beautiful stone, I found it faded into my skin tone. I traded it in for a G.

*I* would take the K no doubt! It is quite a big size difference. But you have to love the K for what it is. Some people have
said that its sort of a light ginger ale color. I personally would love that in a large older looking stone. But if you are looking
for a "white" stone go for the H. I have a small J colored RB but since its such an excellent cut stone...all I see is its beauty!

Thanks for all the advice everyone ! I think I really need to see both stones side by side in person in different lightings to really be sure about my decision. But I do agree that creamy stones are beautiful and being able to afford a larger stone is a def temptation.

Hi Hospotagi - I'm totally biased because I went with an M to get size, and honestly I'm so glad I did. I personally love the warmth in these AVCs (though it might be limiting on some setting choices) - and a K is whiter than my stone. That said, it will show more tint than an H of course.

If there's any way you could see the two side by side, that would be ideal. Then you can decide whether the tradeoff in size vs. color is worth it to you.

Yea I am off to GoG this weekend to see the two in person. A part of me loves the creamy color of the K ( at least what I think it looks like on video) but I dont want to regret my decision down the road wishing I had chosen a whiter stone . An upgrade is not in our future any time soon as we are in grad school right now so I really want to make the right choice. But even though im confused I know that it will be perfect no matter now the ring turns out because it will be a symbol of the love I found in my best friend

Went to GoG today and although some of the warmer color AVCs are really beautiful it was the 1.04 H that stole my heart. I am so excited to be finally owning one of these AVC beauties ! I forgot to bring a camera to take pics but I certain will take some when I get my stone. Thanks everyone for the advice and help. I really appreciate it soo much

I would say yes, but I don't find color to be bad. I'd always take size. I have an L and it's white 95% of the time. Warmth compliments old cuts.

Well the K stone that I was considering was more of a rectangular shape and I really loved the more 1:1 ratio. There was an M color stone available which was really pretty too but while I was struck by its beauty my FH didnt love the warmth as much as I did so we went with the H stone.

I ended up preferring the 1:1 ratio too (after I had initially thought I wanted rectangular). It's great that you got to go in person to see them.

Hi Lovestreet,

I actually did get a chance to briefly speak to Leon although my appointment was with Perry. Perry was really nice and took alot of trouble to show me some very pretty stones. I felt a bit guilty for taking up his time because I just knew in my heart that if I picked any of those diamonds id always be wishing that I had gone with the stone that I really loved at GoG.
Leon came in now and then during our meeting and was polite and informative. Now that I have purchased my AVC I am meeting Leon in two weeks to discuss my ring design . While I know there are a number of designers who could do the setting I am interested in I find myself drawn to Leons work so in a perfect world I would be able to have the stone I love and an LM setting. My meeting with him is going to be on my 30th birthday so lets hope it goes well !

I love how the decision moved from your brain to your heart.
I was more of a brain-decider till I started collecting FCDs.

I think before you have them in front of you in person the brain attempts to dominate on a color decision, but ones you can hold them and completely experience them the heart takes over.

Lovestreet- This whole process has been really exciting ! In fact my FH who lives out in LA actually flew in to meet Perry and Jon too. So our engagement ring will really be a labor of love

Kenny- My FH is an an analytical thinker and I am an emotional thinker ( could be the pisces in me). I think that is why we balance each other out. And I think the choice of the 1 carat H was alittle bit of a decision of both my heart and brain because let me tell you Jon brought out this 4 carat H AVC that completely rocked my world !! If I ever win the lottery that is the first thing I will buy hehehe But you are absolutely right because it isnt always a grading report that accurately determines a stones beauty because at the end of the day beauty is in the eyes of the beholder .

Now, I am very color sensitive, and for me personally, I LOVE having the ice white E as my ering. It just looks so clean and brilliant. And I'm super happy that I made that choice. But it's really personal preference because for some people, it might be too white, you know?

Your earrings are very pretty !! I dont think my H will be as white as your E but I loved all the big bold flashes of light that came off it when I held it near the window. And I do find lower color AVCs very pretty but my H color diamond just had me at hello

Debby the AVCs must show a lot more color than an RB, or it is your pics, because my RB J looks so much less tinted, even my K looked less tinted than the photos of the Js you posted.

Generally, OP, pictures are really helpful to a point, but because lighting matters so much you need to see stones in person to judge. I am glad you had the chance!

Dreamer- The color difference you are seeing may also be because in the second pic the J stone is next to an E stone which really makes the warmth of a J stone very noticeable. I am extremely color sensitive so even to my eyes my H has a hint of warmth but for me it didnt detract from its beauty. And most people including my FH cannot see any warmth at all in my H even under multiple lighting conditions. So I guess for those that are extremely color sensitive such as myself its important to see stones in person whenever possible.
