.. since it isn''t cheap to take an entire family, I thought I would post my thoughts/experience to try to help anyone trying to take an entire family maximize their budget... Figured this was the best forum for it...

For anyone unfamiliar with it..
http://www.dinosaurlive.com/
There is a video on their website under the dinosaurs section. (look at the video with the orange background on the bottom for a demo of the production)

We went without kids and really enjoyed the show (we joked about kidnapping someone''s kid to take), and I think kids would love it. I was in awe for parts of it (especially the eyes blinking, how tall/huge they were, etc). We sat in the third row and I think that was slightly too close because there is a part where they make some ''foliage'' ''bloom'' along the edges of the stage (air in material to look like foliage inflated in a manner similar to hot air balloon type of thing). The ''foliage'' partially obscures the view but not too much - the dinos are so tall that you can''t miss them - it is just when they are coming out from a distance that they are slightly obscured that way - I would recommend sitting about the 10th row or so so that you can still be close but can see over the foliage when it blooms (and a bit later they put it back down so it is really just for a brief period that it is up).

I also recommend sitting at about 7:30 (if the curtain is 12 o clock) which is exactly where we sat - there seemed to be a definite preference for the dinos coming over to our side of the stage and performing/leaning over, etc. They always came out of the curtain area, and went immediately towards 11 o clock and worked their way down counterclockwise. There were a couple of ''whoa watch the tail'' moments coming over the stage at us, but no true near hits - just enough to give a little excitement wondering if the tail was going to hit something/someone! I do think sitting closer to the front is good because of the seeing the eyes blink, feeling so miniscule next to them, etc - I seriously felt like the dinos were actually looking at me! Some of the dinos (like the brachiosaurus and the adult t rex) stopped and leaned over just a few feet from our faces and it was actually kinda scary but fun at the same time. It was funny b/c I knew they were fake but I was still sorta scared (in a deliciously good way!). I didn''t see any kids get upset at all. They all seemed to love it.

So nutshell - it was truly an enjoyable experience. I felt it was unique (more so than going to Disney or Universal). Part of my enjoyment was having watched a couple of tv shows about the making of the dinos and knowing how much work went into them (like the brachiosaurus neck weighed so much it broke the frame so they ended up having to use inflatable ''skin'' around the frame so it would hold up).

Recap seating recs -
I do recommend getting as close as you can get at about row 10 or so at 7:30 if the curtain is considered 12 o clock.
(Although being farther back is good to see the overall show IMO you lose some of the realistic touches if you are too far away such as feeling like the dinos are really right there looking at you and wondering for a sec what they are about to do just a few feet away!)

Hope this helps anyone who is considering going to maximize their experience.

Wow, great review, thanks! I''d love to go see the show but they aren''t coming to my city...I''m so bummed about it. I don''t have any kids. DH & I wanted to go just because dinosaurs are so cool! lol, we''re kind of dorky. Maybe we will take a mini-trip up to Houston and catch it. Thanks again!

A few of my (college-aged) students went to this when it was here - they all said it was AWESOME, which I think says a lot coming from an 18 year old!
