After lurking around here for a while, I kinda think of Garry as the Jesus of diamond cut quality, so I ask myself "What would CutNut Do?" but can''t for the life of me decide whether to play or pass on this stone:

And If you were setting it in a high 4 prong setting the word from above would be pray like Hell that it does not chip (or insure it if you are not (as one mere mortal suspects) overly religious)

I read the 1.8% as being at the thick part.
I just checked the Helium report - GIA might have called the girdle Slightly thick to Thick.

Well, I can''t quite think why you''d want to pass it up....AGS0, a rare and desirable size: 1.4 cts., eyeclean SI2?, hearts and arrows, a terrific price (half of what a similar size F VVS stone that he has costs). What are you doubting about this stone?

I do not think Kitten is "passing it up" DS.
BTW it is clearly not eye clean as a losse stone, but should be after covering the big side mark with a prong.

I''d definitely be asking about the "big side mark" and how big those prongs would have to be to cover it.

I haven''t yet inquired to see if the stone is eye clean, mostly because I fear I''ll be disappointed to hear it''s not. There looks to be a flaw right in the side of the table and that other mark, which could probably be covered by a prong, worries me.

Mostly I just don''t trust my own judgement and truly appreciate the more experienced eyes of everyone here.

As I said, it will not be loose, but can be when set.
Any inclusion that is partly covered by a prong has reflections of the prong making it very hard to discern what is reflection and what is inclusion.

Ask Jon to eyeball it while going over it with you.
He is in the best position too tell you about it.
Telling if an inclusion is eyeclean or not for sure from pictures is mostly impossible but that one is pretty big.
