Do you think you can tell the difference between a .73 stone and a .81 stone? I'm referring to round stones of similar cut quality.
 
Depends on the cut quality and diameters of each but assuming well cut diamonds of those weights I cannot normally tell much difference especially when set.

Probably not unless side by side, about 0.2mm difference in diameter
 
Yes, there is a difference, but it''s really tiny.
 
The difference is small but noticeable when the diamonds are loose and next to each other e.g. on a dark background (I have a display set of stones of different carat weights displayed loose in a dark case to illustrate size to clients) but the difference is not really distinguishable when the diamonds are set.

I have .91 diamonds that look like 1 carat--actually I saw a 1 carat last week and my .90 was actually bigger.
 
Probably when they are side by side and unmounted. Once they are in a ring you probably would not notice a difference.
