This ring was my SO's grandmothers and we are starting the process of looking into mounting the center stone in another setting for my engagement ring. It was given to her in 1936. I've also thought about keeping it the way it is, just restoring it and sizing it but I'm still unsure. We'd like to get it appraised and we aren't really sure where to find a good jeweler in our area that specializes in vintage rings. Also, just from looking at the picture does it look like a European cut stone? Any help or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

From the pictures it looks like a modern round brilliant. It is a beautiful ring!! Congratulations on your engagment.

The ring is a classic style that will always be in style. I'm big on sentiment and
personally I would keep the ring intact. The prongs show some normal wear but the ring appears
to be in very wearable condition for over 70 years old. Yes, the center diamond looks
like a modern brilliant cut. It would be worth it to
take the ring to an independent appraiser who can document exactly what you have.
Also have the appraiser check the prongs and mounting for any needed repairs.
And of course, get the ring insured.

Option two: utilize the center stone and go with a contemporary halo mounting or
dozens of other popular styles. PS vendors offer great choices. That way you will still be wearing a family treasure and
incorporating it into a style that is truly your own.

Best wishes.

No it''s not an OEC and the setting is really beautiful! If you want to buy a setting like this today it will cost you lot of money. It''s up to you but your ring is gorgeous as is.

Ohh, that is so beautiful the way it is.--The diamond and setting are gorgeous.

Not an OEC, but I adore that classic setting. Don''t change a thing!
