Hello all! I've been looking at OEC and other old cuts since early this year and DH knows that one day I wanted to get a larger (for me anyway, though not large by PS standards) old cut stone. This wasn't really in the plans for lots of reasons until next year at least, but I keep coming back to this ring I saw. It's been lightly discussed in another thread and I wanted to find out what much more experienced people think of it as a ring.

Basically, I have my little vintage ring that I love with the floral illusion head popular in the mid century, but wanted to find a larger version of it one day. So I've kept a general eye out, but nothing up to now really caught my eye and I knew we were probably going to have to wait til next year anyway so it was mostly wishful thinking. As circumstance would have it, I saw this ring on both ebay and DB, liked it a lot, and an opportunity has been opened for me. What do y'all think of it?

It's a 1.13 M VS1 with GIA certification in a platinum reproduction setting. I like the light creamy lemonyness of it in the photos. Not sure how that would be IRL.

It is GIA certified and the price is pretty good. I think the seller is open to offers. In the pictures, it does show warmth but it sounds like you don't mind that.

I do really like the stone, it's just a tish too small to be exactly what I want. I think, if you're going to keep the ring as a whole and not change the setting, you should go for it. I think the price is good for a completed piece that you can just slip on your finger! :appl:

Thank y'all for the feedback!

I wish I knew how I felt about the warmth. I know I don't like it in modern cuts, but at least in the photos, I'm not minding what I see. It's usually when I get them under spotlighting that i start to get bothered by it.

Ruby- you are right. I do like the ring as a whole. The top down view is very similar to my little vintage ring, but the shank is not so much. It's straight instead of curvy, but both have milgrain and I think I could live with that for some time to come. It's also already almost my size, just 1/4 too big, unless it is running a little small for size. I also like the look from the sides.

Of course, now I am processing all the guilty thoughts that I shouldn't have been looking, and should make myself wait until we had planned to look next year.

Here are some others I have looked at, but mostly when I look I ask if I would whip out my wallet and be willing to spend money RIGHT now and and answer no. It just seems to be this one ring I really like.

You should also check out Leigh Jay Nacht's website if you want either a true antique or a replica setting with an antique stone. There is like 26 pages of rings with all different kinds of settings and stones and has something is pretty much every price range!

I do think for the price, the 1.13 M is a pretty good bargain. If you are unsure about the color, I would pass on it, especially since the seller is not accepting returns.
