Hello PS Family,

Called around to a few B&M stores in Boston area to inquire about what they may have in store for diamonds M and below...SILENCE, just crickets....was the response.

I thought that would be easy to view some in person to judge if I might want a lower color for a RHR. One vendor only had J and above, the othe vendor commend they are really not that pretty (not a good way to entice a potential customer). I had to firmly state I still wanted to see what they had in stock anyway, was a deadend.

Any places anyone can suggest for me to see M and below diamonds in person in the metro Boston area? I was dismayed the two places called poohed poohed my question. Is this a common trend for people seeking out lower colred stoens? I know buying online is the best for value and selection. But I first need to discover what my preference is or is not.

Well, some of those B&M's might be selling M's and they just don't know it -- their J's, if graded by a lab that grades "softer" than GIA or AGS, could be K's and L's and possibly M's.

The only place I've been able to see lower color stones locally is at artisan (custom) jewelers. Never the larger, traditional stores. One artisan jeweler where I live had a really pretty 2 carat, P color, VVS2 clarity diamond, that I would have considered buying, except that the cut was so bad that it faced up really small. But the color was lovely. Also, is there a Crafted by Infinity dealer near you? http://www.craftedbyinfinity.com/index.php?page=dealers They carry a much wider range of color and clarity grades (all ideal cut stones) in both princess cuts and rounds.

Another idea is to take a trip to NY to visit the offices of Good Old Gold. They also carry a much wider range of color and clarity grades, and a wide range of cuts in the lower colors. http://www.goodoldgold.com/

ETA: Neither vendor will question your taste either! In fact, they will be happy to work with you to find the perfect color. Sheesh, I can't believe how rude and under-informed some salespeople are!
