Hi everyone,

I am THRILLED to report that I have made my final decision on my diamond- I selected a Victor Canera diamond and I am so excited! Oh, it gets better-- Victor is also doing the setting! Who gets lucky enough to have a VC diamond and setting-- I am pinching myself right now, because it is me.

I know that some of this info was in a previous thread, so please forgive me. I think it is worth starting a new thread because I have not seen a comparison of HPD/CBI to Victor Canera's stones on this forum. PS has been so great in helping me make my decisions and I hope that I can give back by sharing MY experience.

So, I recently purchased a 2.12 ct CBI diamond, H Color from HPD. There is no doubt that it is a beautiful stone. However, I did notice a tint (warmth?) in the H. I guess I’m a color sensitive person. Who knew? Please note that I have nothing bad to say about HPD at all- I have a wonderful experience with Wink and Layla and their diamonds are amazing- it was just not the diamond for me personally.

I’m local to Southern California and I was working with David Klass for a setting for my CBI and they were nice enough to try to find a comparable super ideal diamond in the open market. After some back and forth we were unable to find a comparable non-branded diamond that met my expectations soooo, I decided to call up Victor Canera for his in-house super ideal cuts to compare. I took my CBI diamond to his shop to compare the CBI to the VC.

TBH, I wasn’t expecting the results to be what they ended up being. For me, I really fell in love with the VC stones. I saw several and there was just something about them that made me happy. I’m in the process of returning my CBI diamond and switching it for a VC 2.234ct G-VS1 CIH H&A diamond. Again, this is my experience only and I am not trying to take away from HPD.

I spent a fair amount of time with Victor (over 2 hours) comparing my CBI to VC’s in-house CIH H&A diamonds. I tried to find nuances in fire or brilliance or scintillation. Victor’s stones exceeded my expectations which were already VERY high with the CBI diamond. To my eyes, the VC diamond was more beautiful and threw beautiful flashes of light. The symmetric facet pattern was amazing. I could clearly see the eight arrows when looking directly into the stone. Victor went through the process of explaining how he handles the manufacturing of his H&A diamonds and how he has pretty much unlimited control over the production quality of his stones. It was clear to me how much pride he takes in his diamonds. I thought it was really special that he goes above and beyond by actually overseeing the manufacturing of the diamonds. The diamonds I saw were bright almost mesmerizing. The really TORTUROUS part was deciding between a 2.023ct F-VS1 and a 2.234ct G-VS1 stone that VC had. Someone please buy the 2.023 F stone and send pics to me--holy moly it was a stunner--just out of my budget.

So, I went home and pondered what to do (and even posted about it). You guys mentioned the Victor does fantastic settings- so I started looking at his settings and WOW- I found THE ONE. Victor and I spoke on the phone and I got a quote for the setting. I found the quote to be reasonable and as you guys know, he hand forges his rings-- wowsa. However, as I said, I was working with DKJ to set the stone- so I made a call to Amy because no way was I going to betray DKJ- no way! Amy was the sweetest thing and told me I should go with Victor because he has the perfect setting for me. Also, because I bought the stone from Victor, it made sense to go with him for the setting.

Victor will be working on a spectacular three stone ring with side diamonds and a three row pave band for me:) I’m hoping to show it to you guys once its done. I seriously cannot even wait-- I ordered the ring less than 24 hours ago and I am already having trouble waiting. I have to admit, I had a hard time sleeping last night because I am as excited all heck. Wait until you see this diamond!

Without further ado, here are some photo videos that I took. Again, everything in here is my experience and I had a great experience with HPD. For me, VC stone just stood out as a clear winner. DSCN007882.jpg The diamond is on the left is the CBI, the middle stone is a2.023 VC F stone and the one on the right is MINE (a VC, 2.23 G, VS1)

So exciting!!! Some people say color doesn't matter in a superideal cut, but when people compare two outstanding diamonds and one is higher color, I think that definitely adds to the beauty of the stone. So I am not surprised a larger G won out over a smaller H, regardless of vendor, since all the diamonds were top cut quality. But I need to add that Victor is a fine person as well as a gifted jeweler! I was kind of sad thinking of you buying his diamond and not one of his beautiful settings, so this is a delightful development! And what a lovely attitude for Amy to so graciously free you to use Victor for the setting! We are so fortunate to have outstanding diamond vendors and ringmakers through PS!!!

I am dying to know which 3 stone setting you chose!

I could not have said it better myself!

I have a video too- trying to upload

Sorry it is so small. Left is CBI, H color, 2.12. Middle is a Victor Canera, F, color. Right is a VC, G color, VS1. ALL are amazing--but there is something about the VC stones-see what I mean? This video also doesn't do any of the stones justice- they are far more beautiful in person.

I’m not personally familiar with HPD or VC only WF ACA diamonds and I don’t know why, but I had a feeling the far right diamond was VC.

Anyway, I am so thankful to have ACA diamonds and because of PS I would love to work with VC and HPD (heck even DK) someday! You hit the jewelry lottery, IMO. Plus a handful forged setting by VC? Ah-mazing. Congratulations!

See what I mean-- there is something about his stones! They all are like that--something about them makes you happy. Broke, but happy :geek2:. I am having DK do another project for me. I would have loved to have DK do my engagement ring because his stuff is great--but, come on, I get a VICTOR! I can't even believe it. I do feel like I hit the lottery. A very special thanks to PSers!

Are you doing a 3 stone ER?

You mentioned a couple of rings (if I’m not mistaken) that VC is doing for you. I’d love to see inspiration pics.

This is my diamond. It just has IT. For me, when I saw it in person, it took my breath away. As I understand it, Victor is completely involved in the process of cutting the stones and has a great eye for finding the "special stones". Again, just my personal opinion, but his stones are incredible.

DK is fixing my old engagement ring. I sold the diamond and DK is revising it and placing a sapphire in the center. It actually was finished today and I am awaiting pics.

I hadn't considered Victor's settings until yesterday. I thought they were out of reach for me-budget wise. I have to say that it is worth getting a quote from him. I WISH I could have Victor do multiple rings for me (although I am talking to him now about a potential band--a girl can dream)

Here is my inspiration pic that I gave to Victor. The setting in the picture was made by Victor. He has so many lovely 3 stones rings. I love full bling, but I saw several yesterday and they are all fantastic. Ring.jpg

Fantastic photo and video! Can't wait to see your new ring. Would you be able to put into words what made the VC stones more beautiful? I'd love to know a little more about the "it" factor that they had.

Love it so much. Truly. Truly. Truly. I would have chosen this one as well. When I saw this one in the lineup, I gravitated toward it. I would have picked
1. VC. G
2. Cbi
3. VC F.

Only from video. But I love this stone. Congratulations on finding a beautiful stone. So so so happy for you.

I can try....to me, the light seems to move very gracefully around on Victor’s stones. The CBI sparkles too, but they seem to sparkle in a different way. The video doesn’t do the stones justice, you need to see them.

So happy for you. They’re all beautiful stones. Glad you found one that you love! Come back with the ring please!

Congratulations on an amazing diamond! Can't wait to see it in the setting!

:kiss2: I feel like such a fool because I had no idea Victor had stones like this. He is 20 mins from my house! His diamonds are so nice and he is the 3rd generation in his family with the business.

It would be very dangerous for me to live that close to Victor, but you are one lucky girl!!!

@mrs-b I think this is what you are describing. Audrey Hepburn is nothing if not graceful... :kiss2:

I’m so excited for you! I can see why you chose Victor’s stone, it certainly attracts my eyes in the images too. I can’t wait to see your ring! I know it’s hard to wait but he always comes in on time and sometimes earlier than the estimates.
I’m lucky enough to have have two rings by Victor and they really are amazing!

Congrats @NicoleNeedsHelp !!!

I agree with others that you made an excellent choice. I had recently bookmarked that stone, but am glad to see it went to a fellow PS’er. It does look very pretty in your pics! =)2

And as you mentioned, seems like WF hasn’t had any ACA‘s in that size, color, and clarity (plus a mind clean table), so really hoping that will change in the new year.

Wow, these are all incredible!! My eye is drawn to the far right (G color), but honestly all are just amazing. Huge congrats on finding the right stone for you, and awesome that VCis making the setting for you. It's going to be gorgeous and I can't wait to see!!!!!

I also looked at 2 others with Victor- the F, which is just over 2 carats (shown in my video) and another G, VS2. The G, VS2 was stunning and so was the F. The F was out of my budget (but literally my dream stone). The G, VS2 was amazing- it was 100% eye clean at all distances for me. If you are local, these stones were amazing. If you’re not local, I’ve noticed that he has some videos on his Instagram. I realize that I’ve been singing his praises all day- but, I really liked his diamonds.

The one that drew your eye is my stone. hooray! See, there is something about it, right?

Yup, definitely a special one! I thought yours was the one in the middle so I must have read totally wrong, whoops! I think from the video my preference would have been the VC G, then the CBI, then the VC F in the middle. But seriously all are SO gorgeous!

For some reason, the G looks whiter/brighter to me. Not sure if its the table size or what's doing it?

Your new stone is amazing and I am so excited for you! And I have to agree that there is just something about Victor's diamonds; he devotes so much care and attention to the crafting process and it shows, as his stones are truly gorgeous! And how wonderful that you got to see so many of them in person; that must have been amazing! I actually ordered a custom cut CIH from him not too long ago (I have been remiss in posting about it and need to do that soon!) and I found the process to be incredibly easy and seamless, not stressful at all! Not only is the finished diamond incredible, but it matches the expected specifications to a tee! So if anyone is thinking about going the custom cut route, I can wholeheartedly recommend Victor for such projects. I truly admire his hands-on approach to everything he creates, and you will be over the moon with this incredible stone! Congratulations on making a phenomenal choice, and please come back with a SMTB thread (and lots of photos!) once your dream ring is complete! I can't wait to see it!!

That means a lot coming from you because that is the one I selected! I hope it is a high G. All of his stones have a similar vibe. I saw his inventory online and made a list of the stones I wanted to see. I saw 4 potential stones in my budget and they were all amazing. He also showed me some rings that he had just completed and were about to ship. Those stones had the same vibe.

I do! All beautiful but the facets under the table in your diamond seem to light up more. It looks more lively.

Victor Canera is the best!!!
