Hi everyone,
I am THRILLED to report that I have made my final decision on my diamond- I selected a Victor Canera diamond and I am so excited! Oh, it gets better-- Victor is also doing the setting! Who gets lucky enough to have a VC diamond and setting-- I am pinching myself right now, because it is me.
I know that some of this info was in a previous thread, so please forgive me. I think it is worth starting a new thread because I have not seen a comparison of HPD/CBI to Victor Canera's stones on this forum. PS has been so great in helping me make my decisions and I hope that I can give back by sharing MY experience.
So, I recently purchased a 2.12 ct CBI diamond, H Color from HPD. There is no doubt that it is a beautiful stone. However, I did notice a tint (warmth?) in the H. I guess I’m a color sensitive person. Who knew? Please note that I have nothing bad to say about HPD at all- I have a wonderful experience with Wink and Layla and their diamonds are amazing- it was just not the diamond for me personally.
I’m local to Southern California and I was working with David Klass for a setting for my CBI and they were nice enough to try to find a comparable super ideal diamond in the open market. After some back and forth we were unable to find a comparable non-branded diamond that met my expectations soooo, I decided to call up Victor Canera for his in-house super ideal cuts to compare. I took my CBI diamond to his shop to compare the CBI to the VC.
TBH, I wasn’t expecting the results to be what they ended up being. For me, I really fell in love with the VC stones. I saw several and there was just something about them that made me happy. I’m in the process of returning my CBI diamond and switching it for a VC 2.234ct G-VS1 CIH H&A diamond. Again, this is my experience only and I am not trying to take away from HPD.
I spent a fair amount of time with Victor (over 2 hours) comparing my CBI to VC’s in-house CIH H&A diamonds. I tried to find nuances in fire or brilliance or scintillation. Victor’s stones exceeded my expectations which were already VERY high with the CBI diamond. To my eyes, the VC diamond was more beautiful and threw beautiful flashes of light. The symmetric facet pattern was amazing. I could clearly see the eight arrows when looking directly into the stone. Victor went through the process of explaining how he handles the manufacturing of his H&A diamonds and how he has pretty much unlimited control over the production quality of his stones. It was clear to me how much pride he takes in his diamonds. I thought it was really special that he goes above and beyond by actually overseeing the manufacturing of the diamonds. The diamonds I saw were bright almost mesmerizing. The really TORTUROUS part was deciding between a 2.023ct F-VS1 and a 2.234ct G-VS1 stone that VC had. Someone please buy the 2.023 F stone and send pics to me--holy moly it was a stunner--just out of my budget.
So, I went home and pondered what to do (and even posted about it). You guys mentioned the Victor does fantastic settings- so I started looking at his settings and WOW- I found THE ONE. Victor and I spoke on the phone and I got a quote for the setting. I found the quote to be reasonable and as you guys know, he hand forges his rings-- wowsa. However, as I said, I was working with DKJ to set the stone- so I made a call to Amy because no way was I going to betray DKJ- no way! Amy was the sweetest thing and told me I should go with Victor because he has the perfect setting for me. Also, because I bought the stone from Victor, it made sense to go with him for the setting.
Victor will be working on a spectacular three stone ring with side diamonds and a three row pave band for me
I’m hoping to show it to you guys once its done. I seriously cannot even wait-- I ordered the ring less than 24 hours ago and I am already having trouble waiting. I have to admit, I had a hard time sleeping last night because I am as excited all heck. Wait until you see this diamond!
Without further ado, here are some photo videos that I took. Again, everything in here is my experience and I had a great experience with HPD. For me, VC stone just stood out as a clear winner.
The diamond is on the left is the CBI, the middle stone is a2.023 VC F stone and the one on the right is MINE (a VC, 2.23 G, VS1)
