VERY stupid question but here goes

I'm sure this is a very silly, stupid question but I have to ask. On a GIA report, in the comments section, if it says something like, "surface graining is not shown" or "additional clouds are not shown" does that mean they didn't show it on the GIA report even though they're on the diamond, or does it mean that those features aren't shown on the diamond??? This is an SI1 diamond, cut grade excellent, polish and symmetry both very good, depth 62.2%, table 52%.

for an explanation regarding clouds, the info here will also apply to surface graining. If they are not shown on the cert then they aren't of any consequence.

Maybe I can help here. Any comment listed on your report refers to something present in that diamond but not shown on the plot.

A comment such as ''clouds are not shown'' or ''additional clouds are not shown'' simply means that some clouds are present but were not plotted; either because they are faint, numerous or indistinct and there are already enough inclusions plotted that adequately identify the diamond.

A comment starting with "clarity is based on" means exactly that. The inclusion that follows is the clarity grade setter and not plotted either because it''s something that''s never plotted (like internal graining) or something not distinct enough to plot such as a cloud throughout the stone. Obviously, the seriousness of the inclusion is relative to the clarity grade. For instance, a ''clarity based on'' cloud (or clouds) in an SI2 stone are going to be fairly dense.
