Hello All

I''m new.My friend introduced me to this great Forum.

Is it possible a diamond with good numbers (within ideal ranges) actually not an ideal cut?

A.1.75 ct G VS1

Very good cut/Ex polish/Ex symmetry

Depth 61.6

table 57

crown angle 35

Crown height 15.5

Pavilion angle 40.6

Pavilion depth 43

HCA score : 0.9

Factor Grade
Light Return Excellent
Fire Excellent
Scintillation Excellent
Spread
or diameter for weight Very Good
Total Visual Performance 0.9 - Excellent
within TIC range

I believe the above numbers are pretty good. But this diamond is not an ideal cut (GIA certificate: very good cut)

Should I consider this diamond?

I have some other choices

B.1.61 G VS2

Ex cut/very good symmetry/ex polish

Depth: 61.4

table 58

Crown angle 35

Crown height 14.7

Pavilion angle 40.9

pavilion depth 43.3

HCA score 2.1

C.1.72 F VS1

Ex cut/VG symmetry/vg polish

depth 61.9

table 55

Crown angle 34.4
crown height 15.5
pavilion angle 40.8
pavilion depth 43

HCA score 1.3

D.1.76 ct G VVS1

Ex cut/vg symmetry/ex polish

depth 61.8
table 57
crown angle 35.4
crown height 15.5
pavilion angle 40.8
pavilion depth 43

HCA score 2.4

E 1.63 H VS1
ex cut/ex symmetry/vg polish

depth 60.6
table 58
crown angle 33.5
crown height 14
pavilion angle 41.2
pavilion depth 43.5

HCA score 2.5

Okay Which diamond would you pick ?

I like the numbers of the First diamond (HCA 0.9)but it is not an ideal cut.

Diamond C is also good,HCA score 1.3

Now I''m even more confused with the first diamond

If I input Crown angle/pavilion angle,HCA is 0.9

if I use crown height/pavilion depth HCA is 2.4

What a huge difference between 0.9 and 2.4 ! Why ? Thank you for your opinions !

Hi Welcome to Pricescope! Is there a comment on brilliantering on the report of the 1st stone??

I just got those numbers from the store.I did not get the chance to see the GIA certificate in person.

Well check on the cert if it states that, maybe that is why it is very good?

Also check the girdle for the first stone. GIA penalise for a thick girdle whereas AGS do not. The thick girdle will lose you size but does not affect brilliance.

Crown and pavilion angles are said to be more accurate, I would go with the first measurement. I like the look of the F VS, but can you add the diameter measurements please for each diamond, so we have all the info to help you?

To Lorelei:

Thank you !I don''t have the diameter measurements of diamond A.

1.61ct 7.51/7.55/4.62mm

1.76 ct 7.72/7.77/4.79mm

1.72 ct 7.67/7.71/4.76 mm

You are most welcome!

These all look to be in a good tight range! With the first diamond, as Skippers said, I would see if there is a comment made on the grading report such as ' cut grade affected by brillanteering' as this can downgrade from EX to VG. Brillianteering isn't always a negative, even though in some cases GIA can ding the cut grade for it. I would ask if you could get an Idealscope image for the diamonds you like if possible, to include the first stone. Are they online, or with a brick and mortar establishment where you have seen them?

I will post this link for you IN CASE the first diamond has been downgraded for brillianteering! It is a lot of reading, but it should give you an idea of why it is done and the effects it can have, so you can decide for yourself.

They are not online, actually from 2 different stores.I have to ask stores to bring them in to take a look.I do have my own idealscope. But I won''t see them side by side, since they are not from the same source.Which one do you prefer?

(1.67 ,f ,VS1 has faint fluorescence,does it matter?)

Overall for colour, clarity and proportions I like the F VS personally. Also faint fluorescence shouldn''t be an issue and you may not ever notice it.

That is great that you have your own IS, you are well ahead of the game with buying in person!

F VS1 is may not be available (The owner is holding the diamond for another customer) How about the other three?

Are there any more you could consider? Out of what we have, the first VG cut one might be ok, but it would depend on why it got the VG cut grade for me. The numbers on the F VS are in the range that many of us like to see on PS, is it possible you could find some more contenders with similar proportions? Other than that, the G VS might be worth looking at, check carefully with your IS though to make sure.
