..my 1.76 round diamond? Wanted opinions..it seems a little less boring than my plain cathedral I have right now. I think I can get this in 14K white gold, with the diamonds around the head, for less thtn $1000! Opinions? Thanks

Have you seen this in person? The setting looks like the diamond is very high up, and from the top, you''ll see a ring/collar of metal around the center diamond because the halo is only viewable from the side.

Just want to be sure that this is the look you are aiming for.

Not a fan ...

What about this one?

I prefer the second one, sorry I don''t like the first one Beau.

That one has better flow to my eye but it''s still not something that appeals to me personally -- or one that I think will stand the test of time.

Both settings seem to strangle the diamond ... I get claustrophobic about collars like that ... visceral reaction.

Of the two, I much prefer the 2nd one you posted. It''s not very classic but certainly is easier on the eyes.

I''m honestly not totally loving either of them, but then, I''m not gonna wear it.

Get what YOU like.

However, if it was me with that yummy sized stone, and I was trying to spice it up a bit, without totally taking away from the center, and not break the bank, I might go with something like this.

D''Vatche Pave Royal Crown

Thanks ladies, Ellen, I was looking at the Celeste, but it seems funny looking from the top view, the one I looked at anyway. It seems the prongs stick out over the diamond, here is a pic. I wouldn''t pay triple for a Vatche, when I can get a similar style elsewhere for a fraction of the cost. Just me!

Oopss...see if this works

Yeah, way too much prong and metal...

If I had to choose among those three, it would be the second more fluid design. Like deco, I think the first setting seems to have a choke hold that beautiful diamond, and the third doesn''t look great from the top.

You''ll be the one wearing the ring so buy whatever style appeals to your eye.

Too much metal and too bulky on that Celest setting. It just doesn''t flow right which I suppose that''s the reason why it is so much cheaper than Vatche. Given all three choices, setting #2 seems the prettiest.

I have a link to something a little more modern looking, sorry for the link and no picture.

Yah, I agree. I like the one Ellen posted.

Of the first 2 you posted, I prefer the 2nd one. Out of all of them though, I prefer the one Ellen suggested.

I like the one Ellen posted the best...but that''s because that''s the ring I have!!

I can assure you that there is no overhang of metal from the sides like in the celeste you have posted and I think with your 1.76 diamond it will REALLY pop. It has beautiful workmanship and the pave is subtle but striking. (hmm, i am being too biased?)

However, you''re looking to spend under a $1000 then this Vatche would not be the way to go.

Yes, well, the money was spent on the diamond, I didn''t want to fork out thousands more just for the setting. I do like plain gold, no diamonds on the shank. The royal crown from Vatche is pretty...and under $1000 for gold. Or...I will leave it in the setting I have, and spend the $$ on a semi-eternity band instead...too many choices, that''s the problem! LOL

I found this mount that looks quite similar to the Vatche, I can get it in 14k white gold for $ 350. Do you think the diamond would sit too low, or does it look about the same height as the Vatche setting? Thanks

That one is pretty, where did you see this one? I am always looking for ideas for my pear (that never seems to have a permanent home

).

That one would have to be made to fit your stone. I looked at a very similar setting when I was doing my temporary setting, but it wouldn''t accept my size (your size) stone unless custom ordered. I didn''t want to wait. Hmmm. I do declare Beau, you change your mind daily!

Do you want to go to 6 prong? My stone came in a 6 prong setting, and I found that when I switched to a 4 prong, the diamond looked bigger and brighter.

wow that does look just like the vatche and for quite an amazing price! mine does not sit very high at all. or well not so high that it catches on everything...but it''s not so low that dimond is like ON my hand. I don''t have a ruler on hand...but I would guess it''s about 5mm off the top of my finger?

I don''t change my mind often Lyra, there are just too many beautiful settings, and I am not partial to one particular style. I just want something that looks a little different, and makes my diamond pop! I was at t store looking at bands last week, and the owner said my setting is too wide(thick), and if were about 3mm wide, rather than 4.5mm, my diamond would stand out more. I don''t care if it''s in a 6 prong, or 4 prong setting, I always though 6 prongs made the diamond look bigger, especially from the side view, because the head seems wider, not a deep V as my 4 prong has now. If te 6 prongs are thin, and not big, bulky prongs, I would think that would look fine. Anyway...it is difficult to try to picture your diamond set in any ring mount you see online, it''s easier to decide if I could see my diamond already set into the mount, but unfortunately that is not going to happen. Let''s just say, if there was a showcase with 10 different settings, all containing a 1.76 carat diamond in it already, I''m sure one would jump out at me..saying "buy me, buy me"!

My solitaire has a 3mm band, tapering narrower toward the head. The eternity is 1.5mm, and the WB is 2.0mm. Just to give you an idea. I didn''t think yours looked very much different from mine, but maybe a narrower band might suit you better. Obviously I have trouble making up my mind--I''m not even considering a change for a year because I do literally find something different I like everyday too. So I definitely support your searching!

I agree with you about nice prongs--those are hard to find. I think I''ll stick with 4 prongs though since seeing my stone in 6 prongs left a bad impression on me. It would be great to be able to see settings with the right sized center stones, that would make things a lot easier. Meanwhile, I keep looking.
