Hello,
My wedding band came in a couple of days ago and I wore it for about half of a day to make sure that it fit well and to make sure I didn''t want to make any changes before the 14-day exchange period was up.
I originally ordered a 7 point RB shared prong half eternity band in platinum, but ended up changing the order to 6 point diamonds for 2 reasons: 1. It saved me some money and 2. I was afraid that 7 pointers were a tad too big for my 1.5 carat asscher center stone.
When the ring came in I noticed that it was a bit small. I''d ordered it in a 7.75, but it felt like a 7.5. I decided to bring it in today to check the size and get it resized if necessary. This is when things got a bit sketchy for me.
First was the sizing issue--it definitely was a 7.5 which I think is an honest mistake, but...
Second, a PRONG WAS BROKEN??! I mean, I have had this ring for 2 days, worn it for only several hours and a prong is broken? Not to mention the fact that the ring is in platinum? I am very new here and don''t know a ton about rings, but I''m assuming this is very rare?
Third, I compared my 6 point band with a 5 point band and a 7 point band in the exact same shared prong setting. I''m assuming there should be a slight difference between the 5, my 6 and the 7. There was absolutely zero difference between the 5 and my 6, but I did see a difference in the 7. The prongs for my 6 pointer and the 5 pointer lined up exactly and the stones looked the exact same size. When i compared mine to the 7 pointer, the prongs didn''t line up at all and the 7 pointers were larger to my naked eye. The jeweller told me you could not see the difference between stones with just one point difference, but it seems that if I had 6 point stones, the prongs would have lined up perfectly for all 13 diamonds?
And finally, when I expressed my concerns he told me there was no exchange or returns for custom rings, which includes ALL eternity bands. When I picked up my ring I was told I had 14 days to return or exchange it, but apparently that''s not the case.
So now I feel really stuck. This is not where my FH bought my engagement ring, this is a from a B&M store in our diamond district and the only thing I have is the jeweller''s appraisal for insurance purposes. When I expressed my concerns the jeweller took out my receipt and showed me where the person making my ring had written .06 diamonds and had also written "Pxx" which apparently is from the packet they came from? But that doesn''t tell me anything. He said they have to be really careful about that because if they use the wrong size then it''s considered fraud.
So I don''t really know what to do now. The ring is at the jeweller''s now being resized and having the prong fixed. I feel really stuck, but I don''t know how much of it is me being completely paranoid and inexperienced.
I wonder how much it would be for me to have the stones weighed by an appraiser? I guess they''d have to take them out of the setting? I just feel like i was lied to.
This is my wedding band and it''s really important to me. I want for it to be very durable and just to be what I ordered. I only have 5 weeks before the wedding and if I''m going to fight to try to get a refund or exchange, I only have 12 days.
Am I being crazy? Can you tell a difference between an EB with 5 pointers vs. 6 pointers? Is it not that abnormal for a platinum prong to break? What should I do?
Thanks so much and sorry for the long post! I''m just a naive, overstressed bride who was lucky to have stumbled onto this forum several weeks ago.
