Hey all,

Been a few months since I purchased my 1ct Round Brilliant from Brian Gavin with everyone's help. Diamond is gorgeous, and absolutely stunning. Money got tight for a while among other things, but now I'm in the hunt for a setting.

The lucky girl has chosen a Verragio Setting - Venetian 5003. I found one at a local shop for well below MSRP and it seems like a great deal. However, the current cubic zirconia set in it is a princess at 6.5mm. I have a round diamond at 6.43 mm. The jeweler assured me that it should be able to fit, but I'm skeptical and want your guys' advice on it. I have no idea whether Verragio makes different heads for Round and Princess, and if I wanted another one, I'd have to order it from Verragio at a much higher price (+$700). Should I trust that the jeweler will be able to fit the round in this head?

Any comments greatly appreciated!

If the jeweler says he can do it, and he's reputable, I'd guess that it's possible. I would think that he'd have to remove the existing head and add one that works for a round cut stone. Could you ask the jeweler to contact Verragio and see if they'll change out the head for you? That would seem to be the safest route. The ring is absolutely lovely! She has good taste!

In the two images, it looks like the prongs are the same for princess and round versions of the setting. If the setting had square corner prongs to hold the princess, I think that wouldn't work so well, but it looks like they are regular rounded prongs.

For $700, order the setting made for your diamond and in her ring size. I never recommend buying a sample setting that is not exactly the right size for the diamond and finger.
