Long time reader, first time post-er.

Does a "Venus Star" really make a diamond more precious than other Hearts and Arrows diamonds?

I''m looking at the following diamond ring:

G VS2 1.08 carat
AGS "000"; Heart and Arrows; No Fluorescence; Venus Star diamond.
61.9 depth
56 table
35.3 crown
41 pavilion
on the setting I like (antique platinum, priced at $1000) for $7236.

I checked out Dirt Cheap Diamonds and found three similar diamonds that had better Halloway ratings than this one, were all hearts and arrows, same or better color and clarity from $6521 to $6928. The only difference was that these three diamonds didn''t say anything about being a venus star.

I''m wondering if I should try to haggle and bring the price down, or if this is a dream offer and I should accept it as is. Also, if you have any more info about Venus Star diamonds, that would be great.

Thanks

Since when does the sticker on the bottle make the wine good? "venus XXX" is a brand set to guarantee a certain range of optimized round briliants. There are not 1000 receipes of obtaining top optics from a round diamond with the traditional fact pattern, shared by both branded and non-branded cuts. Virtually every seller mentioned on pricescope has some kind of "brand" or category of diamonds which they select from their stock based on certain criteria. The seller would demonstrate that the respective diamonds fulfill whatever promiss of cut quality, and this is it. I really do not believe that the diamonds are aware of whatever name they are given. All one needs is a credible measure of quality to demonstrate that the "name" stands out for something. usually, the nicer the name, the bigger the price premium... but a diamond is a diamond, and surely could not care less. Unfortunately, the prices of diamonds vary enough among vendors so that the premium charged for "ideal" cut diamonds onli gets swamped by either the large difference between on-line and off-line prices and other such considerations. It is probably best if you can edcide on what exactly is a good diamond FOR YOU, and go for it; brand name or no brand name... I would say

Venus is a Brand name. There have been several discussions in the past. If you enter Venus or Infinity into "Search", you can read through the old threads.
