Slowly but steadily I am planning my upgrade. Now I have a question- could you recommend me vendors that have an upgrade policy that would not require spending twice the amount.

I know that some super-ideal vendors do it (e.g. CBI) but chances are that with my budget I will be rather looking for normal GIA XXX rather than super ideal branded cut in order to get to the size I wish to have.

Also, based on current diamond prices, I do not expext to have the full budget within next year, but to arrive at 75% or so, which would lead me to wish to upgrade further 1-2 years later, once I have full amount.

I am looking forward to your suggestions

Thank you

Whiteflash seems very reasonable. Check their website to confirm the most recent policy. I would also check Good Old Gold and Victor Canera. Don't just trust what people say. READ THE WEBSITE for yourself. Don't even trust me. I haven't read the current policy lately.

Definitely Whiteflash...trade up for same amount...no requirements to spend more or upgrade on 2 or more specs (or spend double).
They do carry well cut GIA graded stones.

Whiteflash is awesome; Good Old Gold is as well. 30 day Return/Lifetime trade up & 1yr. buy back policy, as well as trade up with no minimum (trade up for the same amount, no requirement to spend more, just like WF).

I have stones from Whiteflash and Good Old Gold which both have the best upgrade policies. If you are talking about a round brilliant, I recommend Whiteflash as I have used their upgrade policy several times. They are the best source, in my opinion, because they stock more excellent/ideal cut stones than anyone else, making it easier to upgrade.

Diamonds Direct will give you 110% back to upgrade your diamond. The only "rule" is that you spend $1 more. It's a brick and mortar, but they have a very good selection of diamonds. The only thing is that you need to know what you're looking for (specs, performance, ect), because they are a "GIA XXX is the best" type mentality. That said, they are not pushy and will accommodate you based on your preferences without question.

Hello Dizzie,
High Performance Diamonds also has the unrestricted lifetime trade-ups with no minimum some of the other great sellers do.

They also have something no one else is offering. A unique lifetime return for 80% of what was originally paid. They can likely do this because they sell CBI only, and nothing below it, so it’s all-inclusive. I don’t intend to use it, but it’s a nice store of value to know I have.

Does anyone know what IDJs upgrade policy is on loose stones?

FYI: I am in a similar situation (i.e. looking for well cut stones- but not a branded / super ideal cut) which I would likely trade up, given the size ho that I am!

For Whiteflash and GOG, while it's true there's no minimum spend on upgrade, only specific, branded stones qualify for trade up.

For Whiteflash it's stones that are part of their A Cut Above, Expert Selection or Premium Select.

GOG is also the same (in fact I was just on their site yesterday looking this)e.g. Ascendency Line, AVC, AVR
They do have a 1 year buy back for stones that qualify, so that could work for you depending on what you want.

The last time I spoke to IDJ, only round stones apply. I am not sure what's the latest since it's not displayed on their website.
