Alright so the FI and I decided a Vegas wedding at Mandalay Bay April 25th 2009. We picked out the chapel package and are putting the deposit down once we see the chapel on vacation early next month. We are thinking there will be a TOTAL of 40-45 people attending including the whole wedding party. We are unsure of what we will do after the ceremony. Our choices are:

1. Cocktails, Appetizers, and cake (bosses idea, he''s like my second dad, lol)

2. Dinner & cake..well cocktails also...basically a regular reception

I know #1 would be cheaper but the ceremony I''m hoping will be around 1, so after the cocktail party isnt everyone going to want dinner?

#2 will probably be a fortune unless I can find somewhere decently cheap, but still nice.

Any ideas of places to hold a reception on the strip?

Is 40-45 guests too many to hold in a private room in a nice restaurant?

One more thing....On the Save the Date Cards is there anyway I could put something like "Need a guest count for Chapel, let me know if you''re planning on making the trip" Because the chapel can only hold up to 50, unless I upgrade to the bigger chapel.

Sorry I made this so long, but boy I''m having trouble and it''s barely began!!

We are getting married that same day at the wynn followed by the reception at treasure islands pool side. Isn''t it so exciting !

There are restaurants that having private dining rooms. If you call you can ask the hotels to speak to their restaurants for events. For instance, I know there are some in the Forum at Caesars that have private rooms for weddings. As far as the cake idea, you can stay in a really big suite and it in the room. those are usually done through room service. You could also call some hotels that are just off the strip and see about using their banquet rooms. and i had a few brides have a cake and punch reception at the pool area. they used one of the private/cabana areas

the options are endless, so it makes it hard to choose :)

My friend got married at the Wynn and had the reception at Lawry''s The Prime Rib.
If your ceremony is at 1, I don''t think you need to go for a full blown dinner. "Cocktail Reception" on the invitation should be enough.

I think feeding everyone is gonna cost A LOT of money, even lunch-- we research a wedding about your size (a little smaller) with a reception in Vegas but the costs to us, on top of the cost to our guest made us decide us against it. I didn't like the Buffet at Mandalay Bay a lot (desserts were really dissapppointing), but the least expensive option might be to see if they have a room off the buffet area to rent you, and if it wouldn't bother you have your guests attend the main buffet and then just come back to the reception room. Beyond that... you could do something like a dessert reception, people could eat a nice brunch or late breakfast, attend your wedding then have desserts and dessert wines and ports with you. Or, the Four seasons has a buffet (not sure it's open for lunch though) and I think its really close to Manadalay, so the buffet there might be an option. Actually the cafe at Mandalay Bay was really surprisingly good. We went there at like 2 am one night and had a really surprisingly great meal. The tomato soup alone is just amazing. Cheese sandwiches were great (sounds strange but it was a great cheese sandwich). Whatever I ordered was really good too (but clearly not as memorable as tomato soup and cheese sandwich FI ordered-- lol).

The service was terrible but it was 2 am. If you pick them as your caterer, the food might be affordable (was still pricey, but its Vegas and Mandalay Bay) in comparison. Also many of the Mandalay restuarants weren't open for lunch (the steak house for example) you could see what they charge (I would argue for a reasonable food and beverage minimum instead of a rental fee) to have a private party. Best of luck!!

Alrighty I think I''ve decided with a "Cocktail Party" appetizers and cocktails. Can I still do a cake? or would that be tacky?

Where could I have one of these? I''d like to stick with Mandalay Bay so the guests dont have to travel. I was thinking House of Blues. My mom is going to call for pricing. I wonder if I could do something by the Mandalay Bay Beach? Has anyone checked into that? When we go out there next month I think I''ll have a better idea of my options.

Thanks for the input.

I had a dinner at Rao''s, it was pretty $$.
Try Pierro''s...very nice place, pretty flowers, good food!

Definitely have cake! Not tacky, and you can''t miss out on that!!

I''m guessing no more than 30, at first I thought there would be more like 40, but I sat down and counted and it''s 23 100% sure and then a few that are uncertain.

Can I put anything on the Save the Date cards? just to get a better idea. Because if there''s only 30 guests we could afford a sit down dinner reception. Although I really think a cocktail reception would be pretty cool.

I like the CR, it''s more flexible if your number changes. I had to pay 150 for a no-show. People are kind of in that party mode in Vegas, I think they would enjoy the CR.
