Annual girls trip is to Vegas this year. In a brilliant move, I have procrastinated and now have less than 2 weeks until we arrive. Pretty typcial, if you know me. I am actually surprised I was set up with this task, I am generally the one that gets us lined up for dinners and stuff...anyway- I digress. So, now I am in desperate need of some hotel advice. Mainly we are going to be hanging by the pool and consuming adult beverages but I wanted to stay somewhere close to the strip that isn’t going to cost me my very valuable limbs. With that being said, last time I was in town I stayed at Flamingo in the new updated rooms- they were pretty great. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to stay that is a good location, has a pretty decent pool (you know, not so awesome that I feel like a kid in band among the cheerleaders but at the same time not the kind where we are the youngest people by 45 years, either) and won’t make me sell any vital organs to afford the room. Thanks in advance. :twirl:

I hope you have a great weekend away. You deserve it! I'm thinking of the recent SATC movie and what a good time the fab four had around that pool....... :-) Have a GOOD time!

GG- Aww, Thanks! *shuffles feet* I will fill you in when I get back! :)

MGM is towards the south end of the strip, but they have nice pools and a lazy river, and sometimes very good sales! We stayed there for a bachelorette party in april, rented a cabana, and had a lot of fun. There were a lot of lounge chairs by the pools so people weren't fighting over space. They have a pool party called Wet Republic, which consists of loud music and wannabe cool kids... so we avoided it like the plague. I'm there to relax, not to party like a rock star. :cheeky: It was mostly a youngish crowd when i was there.

I've stayed at the Venetian and Planet Hollywood before, and while their location's great, the pools are soooo crowded that we had trouble finding lounge chairs. Mirage, Treasure Island, Bellagio tend to have an older crowd. Excalibur is cheap as heck, but you get what you pay for. Monte Carlo's neighbor was under construction last time, and it looked like the pool area was right next to it. Caesar's Palace is nice, but usually on the pricier end.

Oh! maybe look into Aria, too, in the new City Center? I got something in the mail a month ago about specials. They have a great breakfast/lunch buffet, and the pool looks pretty nice!

I've been to Vegas once and stayed at the VENETIAN. It was awesome. The rooms were great, service was great and the food was good too. Pool area was nice and quiet..I guess everyone was gambling but it was nice to bring my book, sip on my frozen drink and relax without kids

We stayed in a spa suite at the Monte Carlo for our engagement trip in July. The location is pretty good (its right next to city center) and our suite was overlooking the strip. The pool is great, and while you have to search for a chair, there was always one available. They have a lagoon pool, wave pool, lazy river, hot tub, and maybe one other pool. The lazy river is awesome. On the weekend there is a DJ at the pool but we didnt find that it was so loud that we were disturbed (and we REALLY like quiet, non crowded places...so i think most normal people would not be disturbed by it). We got a cabana for one of the days which was the best pool day we had. Only thing about the cabanas at MC is that its a lottery. So you can just go up and rent one (unless there are empty ones after theyve offered them to everyone on the list...then you can rent), you have to get your name on the list. I put our name on the list 3 weeks before we went for everyday we stayed there and we got offered a cabana everyday. So I dont know how competitive it is, but we couldve gone in a cabana everyday. They say its based firstly on casino play but we were offered one the day we checked in (they called while we were still on the plane) so we obviously hadnt been in the casino at all. MC is an MGM hotel but its cheaper than some of the other ones. All in all we really liked our stay there.

Edit: I dont remember if there was construction going on next to MC, but it definitely wasn't noticeable at the pool. You couldnt see or hear any construction.

I forgot to mention that more hotels are doing the pool party thing.. loud music, tons of college kids/hollywood wannabe types. They usually charge admission for that, and the "special" party areas will be off limits from the hotel guests. At the MGM the party was in a separate area so we weren't bothered by it, but i heard Rehab at Hard Rock is pretty much just piles of bodies..

This site gives a look at the pools in various hotels:

My favorite are the "go rooms" at the flamingo. Totally my style. I know you have already stayed there but I also think the location is the best. I like being in the middle of the strip and the casino doesn't seem as busy.

Avoid the Imperial Palace. ewww

I L-O-V-E Vegas.

-The Flamingo is in a great location and the rooms are reasonable comparatively.
-THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay has a really nice pool and is pretty laid back (Super expensive drinks though). Really nice rooms. A bit farther down the strip. And rooms CAN be pricey.
-Mirage has a nice pool but the scene is a bit rowdier there. Nice rooms. Pretty good location. Priced well.
-Treasure Island (or is it just TI now?) is like Mirage. Younger, louder. More children there too as I recall. Rooms are reasonable here.
-Bellagio was the quietest, most relaxed of all the pools I've been too. Best location. Great drink service. Expensive rooms but great dining (I love Olives oh so very much) and I just soak up the vibe there. Love playing table games there. Bellagio is definitely my favorite! Especially if you want a quiet pool for relaxing without all the gimmicky pool party stuff.

DH and I try to go to Vegas at least a couple times a year because we just love being there. The last time we were there, I won over $1400 on penny slots and he won over $5000 at the tables. I have a bad feeling our luck is going to run out the next time we go.....

Wow- thanks for the awesome responses, guys.

ForteKitty: We are leaning towards MGM, one of my girlfriends always stays there and got an email last night for 2 nights and 2 tickets to see a few different shows for ~$250. I am thinking that is a pretty awesome deal.

Atroop: I have never been to the Venetian- I have heard great things but there isn't much of a break in the pricing for the weekend we are going..:(

Tacori- So I tried to look at the Go rooms at the Flamingo because I liked it so much there the last time but the ENTIRE hotel is booked up. I know where the party is going to be that weekend. Also, another perk of Flamingo-ing is the pool backs up to this street off the strip that has a bunch of SUPER cheap liquor stores lining it. We would just flip a coin to see who would make the next run while we were poolside. :) I was the flipper so I never went, I recommend that job- you kind of control the fate of the group. ;) I loved the rooms, though. The first night we got there I was in one of the regular rooms. No lie, I cried when I walked in. It was not the awesome rooms I saw displayed on the flat screen behind the check in counter. It was the sad sick version of the bates hotel. HORRIBLE, dark, drab and probably sporting the same polyester brown floral bedspread from the last remodel that if I'd have to guess, took place back in the 70's. LOL, I fixed that first thing the next morning. I loved the pink lights in the bathroom, they were pretty awesome!

IWPO: LMAO. Yeah, it looks scary. Like, I might get murdered in the shower, bad. I was like, hmmmmm...$49 a night in the middle of the strip? Lets see some photo evidence. Yeah, I see why. Please reference my above response to Tacori- it is scarily like the sad panda rooms at Flamingo...I mean, I could go and stay at Frontier if I really wanted that. LOL, btw- a two story casino in Vegas? * shakes head * Its laughable.

TravelG- LOL, wanna come play for me? You should be called the 'one armed bandit'. Penny slots, huh? Excellent, I will have to check those out. Thanks for the breakdown, I was looking at TI as well but believe it or not- MGM is less expensive than TI. Odd?

Ladies, thanks so much. I am going to see what I can find based on all your recommendations- I will keep you posted. :)

MGM runs sales all the time, they had a pool evacuation last week I'm sure the problem has been fixed! I would check with them and maybe strike a good deal?
Planet Hollywood is crazy, great shopping center but just too crazy for me.

The palazzo [new tower at the Venetian] gets my vote --eco friendly. Pool hours start early and you have 7 pools to choose from. Service is amazing, not cheap but you can try getting a lesser rate if you call...avoid Fri/Sat stay. Mario Batali, Emeril & Wolf have their restaurants there but you gals can go the the Grand Lux cafe for lunch/dinner and split the order...their servings are huge...Huge!
It connects to the Venetian through a corridor, where you can eat at the food court for much less. Lots of night clubs to pick from. Have fun!
ETA just heard MGM is running $68 rate now?

straw, did you call them? I love the TV inside of the bathroom mirror. So cool.

ETA: I have also stayed at Bally's (gross), Paris, New York, and Tropicana (super gross). Flamingo is my fav.

My best girlfriend and I are headed there this weekend to celebrate my 40th birthday, and we always stay at the Four Seasons. It's the top few floors at Mandalay Bay and has it's own entrance, pool, etc., so it's very "civilized" (or as civilized as anything CAN be in Vegas). If you get some sort of deal (e.g., do you have an Am Ex platinum card? you can book through Fine Hotels and Resorts) it's generally not any/much more than the other hotels. They also usually have a "book two nights, get the third for free" deal through FHR.

Ninna- Pool evacuation? Is that code for someone...ahem...let the kids stay in the pool too long? LOL. No, seriously though- any idea what happened?! I was there when they were building the Palazzo- I have heard great things, I need to check it out. Yeah- I need to check that out- if so that original deal of $250 would be a little high.....

Tacori- No, I need to get on the horn. Sweet talk my way into a go room. OMG, I was so distracted by the TV in the bathroom mirror that I spent twice as long getting ready because it was just so damn cool to watch. LOL, I am a huge nerd. OMG, yeah, I was talking to a buddy who just got back the other day and one of his friends ended up at Circus Circus. He said that they got in the room and he didn't even unpack, slept in his clothes on top of the covers and said that he thought that he was going to be murdered. LMAO. I was like, wow. There you go.

Dee*Jay- Happy 40th!!! I hope you girls have a blast!!! Take lots of pictures, or don't, I mean it is Vegas!! ;) I was looking at The Four Seasons, I didn't realize that I could call my AMEX to do that, I usually just hop on the concierge and let them take care of it for me...but honestly? They don't always get the best deal. I would rather save it and spend it shopping. :) Listing it as 'civilized' kind of makes me think we might not be 'ideal' guests...LOL, these are girls that I went to summer camp with for 12 years straight. Let me just say, when I start dating someone, I have to mentally prepare them for all of us in one room. True statement.

LOL, maybe "civalized" wasn't the right word! Trust me, my girlfriend and I have been known to get in a fair amount of trouble, and they haven't thrown us out of this Four Seasons yet!

Renee-
What are the exact dates? Another member contacted me on a social network site, and I definitely have some great resources to obtain good deals. I just need check in and check out dates, and I'll get back to you

I forgot we have stayed at Circus Circus too! It is SOOOO GROSS. Guess I blocked it out from my memory. Haha.

Yes, Lazy River at the MGM had a valve malfunction and people were exposed to bleach fumes, 26 people were taken to the hospital and 1,000+ evaquated. Sales have been down since the 27th, I would call and ask for a Manager to make sure the pools are open [I know they are] he may offer an upgrade [for the price or a reg] that isn't occupied to begin with. They just started a 20% off, and all kinds of deals, I'm married but Wet Republic Ultra Pool w/DJ is the place to be for singles
Same applies to the Palazzo, 800 call may help >$

Princessplease- We are flying out on the 18th and coming home on the 20th- September. :) Thanks SO much, that would be GREAT!!

Tacori- NO.LIE. Circus Cirucs could probably give you some awful disease. LOL.

Ninna- OMG!!! That is horrible! I feel badly for poking fun thinking that a kid pottied in the pool!! That is insane.

We are thinking that we might do TI or Paris. I don't know, I will wait to hear back from you PP- :) :)

Thanks ladies! :)

Plus, I will have a nice refreshing adult beverage for all of you and your hard work. Tacori- bless your heart, you were having to relive some horrible stays. ;) Thanks for the heads up, I don't think my insurance covers the therapy I might have needed if I would have ended up at Imperial Palace. HA!

Dee*Jay- Have a rocking weekend, remember to keep it 'civilized' for all of us :saint: - have a grand time and bring that birthday in with a bang!

Too bad you're not going to be there this weekend; would have been fun to meet up with you!

Dee*Jay- We will just have to plan together next year! I hear 41 is the new 21.....just saying. :naughty: :)

Imperial palace is definately a place to get shanked. LOL

IWPO- LMAO. It could also be a place to cultivate your curiosity on how to MAKE a shank. You never know when that skill might come in handy...aside from staying at the previously mentioned hotel as well as Circus Circus.

Excalibur--don't do it. Although they have been renovating like crazy...Still, its full of kids.
The Orleans---waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off the strip. Great prices and nice place, although kind of creepy...
Mirage--I love it. My fave hotel so far.
Luxor--Never saw the pools, but the rooms were getting shabby last summer, I can't imagine they are better.
Mandalay Bay--smells like suntan oil all year round. Best pool on the strip. But kind of isolated--although that means its quieter.

I'd lean towards MGM, Mirage, Flamingo and maybe Planet Hollywood or Aria?

It took me a week to get the must out of my hair. Interesting though, the dealers there double as topless dancers...multi tasking at its finest. Bwwwaaaahaha :naughty:
