1. We are trying to narrow down the setting, and we were wondering what people thought about the differences between the vatch x prong and the leo ingwer 15PLE754. Do you think that there is a big difference in quality between the two? Also what (roughly) would be the difference in cost?

2. We were also confused about how to order the Vatche round x prong. Looking at a couple of the websites that offer this ring, they seem to ask the stone size (i.e. 1.00 carat, 1.5 carat, etc.) Our stone is 1.37 - do you recommend rounding up or down with regards to this dimension? In a way, we would like the band to be more on the narrower side, so we would prefer the 1.00 if this is possible.

You will need to go with the 1.5 to properly fit the 1.37. The Leo Ingwer is a nice ring, but not as well made as the Vatche and it does not carry the warranty of the Vatche, but it does cost less.

The Ingwer piece is available in 14kt and the Vatche will be either in 18kt white or platinum.

Talk with your vendor, he will be able to discuss these things with you.

Wink has already given the expert answer, but I just wanted to add that I''d most definitely go with Vatche. Their rings are beautifully finished.

I have an ''off brand'' x-prong (pre-pricescope) and I''ve seen Vatche in person. Go with the Vatche.

Hi!

I have a 1.40 round in the Vatche X-Prong. If you are wanting a narrower band, this one isn''t it, it''s fairly wide.

I happen to love the setting, and I''m not sure of your reason for wanting the narrower band, but if it''s to make the diamond stand out or "pop", it won''t really compared to thinner settings. If that is something you are wanting I''d look at settings that are less wide.

Thanks for all the input - it really helps. We haven''t seen either in person (just via internet pics), and it is hard to get an idea of how much a difference there is in how the rings look.

To clarify: We do like Lucida-esq width of the Vatche X prong, but given the option of it being slightly wider (1.5) or narrower (1.0) we thought we might like it a bit narrower. We weren''t sure if you were supposed to round up or down, however.

Yet another question: is it possible to have the Vatch X prong in a comfort fit? Any idea on the cost differential? Any one have one in a comfort fit and would they recommend it?

Thanks!

Yes, if you do a search on here some threads come up.

Because the price of metals change rather frequently, I would call Vatche directly on price quotes.

I can't answer your last question because I don't have one...but Vatche does make comfort-fit rings, and Good Old Gold (among other vendors, I'm sure) sells them:
Comfort-fit X-prong
Comfort-fit Royal X-prong

I don't know the difference between the Royal and plain X-prongs, but they both look nice.

Edit: Actually, looking at the pics, it seems that the Royal has a tapered band. This might be important for you!

That''s correct, the royal prongs taper in towards the diamond. I considered the x-prong myself and prefered the royal to the x-prong because of tapering. it give syou a substantial band but the tapering gives it a "softer" look. Both rings are beautiful though! It''s all personal preference.

Also, I have a royal crown, and although I''m not sure if it''s a comfort fit, it is VERY comfortable. comfort fit is when the edges are rounded, correct? mine seem to be that way, but comfort fit or not it''s very comfy.

I have a 1ct lucy cut diamond custom set by vatche in a thinner x prong band. I didn''t like the way the band was so thick (almost as wide as the diamond) so my local jewelry vendor suggested that I had vatche custom set the diamond in a 2.5mm band. The original width of the 1ct band would have been 3-3.5mm. Vatche did not charge extra for this although it took almost 4 weeks to get the ring back. So it can be done. You just have to ask.

Here is another picture of my lucy set in a thinner vatche x prong.
