Vatache U113 question

I am just curious if the Vatache U113 can be modified to have diamonds in the crown? Similar to Mark Morrell's Torchiere maybe?
Thoughts please!

I would just say to get Mark Morrell to make the ring. People generally get the Vatche U-113 because they want a replica of the Tiffany solitaire which never has diamonds. I have mine on now and I just can't quite see it being as good with the diamonds as the MM ring design.

Thank you DS! That is kind of what I thought

You're welcome! I think it is usually best to stick with a design that has already been made as opposed to trying to add to an existing design. You never know how those will turn out!

True!

Can I ask one more question? Is the Vatache U113 a knife edge? It's kind of hard to tell in the photos I have looked at

Good Old Gold describes it as a "pinched shank". They informed me that it is very similar to a knife edge, but there is a subtle difference. The Tiffany setting looks "sharper" to me if that makes any sense.

Having tried both on, I will say that the Vatche is more of a knife edge than the Tiffany. I think that may be because the Tiffany shank is just a little thicker (wider). I will say, however, that Vatche would probably make that ring with a rounded shank if someone wanted that. I think the picture Trialnerror linked from GOG of the Vatche setting is actually one with a rounded shank and not the knife edge (or else the lighting and angle is making the knife edge invisible in the picture). For the longest time I didn't even realize that was a Tiffany replica because the shank wasn't right!

Thank you both so much! I love PS lol

That's odd, I wonder how the description can vary by so much... Here is what the fine people at GOG told me: "The Vatche U-113 has a pinched edge. Where the 2 sides of the shank meet there is a definite edge on a knife edge finish. The U113 shank tapers (thins) where the 2 parts meet. There is no sharp edge."

No ring with a knife edge band has a sharp edge. If it did, it could cut the fingers on either side of the ring finger. All I can tell you is that the Vatche shank is a little thinner than the Tiffany, making it a little more of a knife edge. I have seen some rings that had a much lower ridge and less defined knife edge, also. I don't have a problem with the word "pinched" but the style of the shank is called "knife edge".

I believe she was referring to "sharp" as the definite edge on a knife edge finish. She explained that the U113 tapers and does not have such a defined edge. I've read that some are bothered by a knife edge and find they're not comfortable with regard to the fingers on either side. Thanks for the input DS! Looking forward to receiving ours.

The real Tiffany shank is wider and more rounded than the U113. The Vatche shank has more of a pointed edge to it, if you will.
