Valentine's Day - gifts? Plans?

I get a cup of coffee in bed every day, too. I'm one very lucky woman, I know it! On Valentine's Day the coffee will be made in my new kettle and probably served with toast from my new toaster!

:))

Normally we go out for dinner around Valentine's day, we exchange cards on the day, and DH buys me roses. Historically we haven't done flowers, because roses in February are *not* good. But we recently found a company that does really nice quality roses for Valentine's Day, and we buy from them - in large part because buying from them also includes a donation to our local NPR station, which we support during the year.

Since the restaurant dinner isn't happening, we subbed the Smeg appliances, which we need anyway, and I'm making my husband's favorite dinner - shepherd's pie. He's ordered a copy of the movie, Grease, which he enjoys and I've managed to avoid up till this point in time (I *really* dislike musicals!), and we're going to eat our dinner, watch our movie, exchange our cards and crack a bottle of wine, while siting in front of the fire with our dogs.

Sounds like heaven to me.

I get the whole 'we don't celebrate' thing - I really do. But over the last year we've celebrated aaaallllll the holidays - to break the year up as much as anything else - and it's helped. For us, we don't need extravagant Valentine's Day celebrations, and there's no doubt that my DH and I are loving to each other every day of the year. But it's nice to do something special and to align ones self with the holiday that expresses love for one's partner. I'm not looking for the moral high ground here. I just love any excuse to say to this wonderful man - I adore you. I'll say it the day before. I'll say it the day after. But on the 14th, I'll say it while handing him a card and a large plate of shepherd's pie.

I may have a roast duck instead of a Tomahawk steak, as I don't make a roast very often.

Still deciding! :lol-2:

I would have been gone camping from 10 Feb until 15 Feb 2021, however, thanks to Brexit as well as Covid-19, my van is further delayed until the end of Feb 2021, and the campsites are closed. :roll2:

I love duck! Did it for Christmas just passed - it was awesome!

Camping sounds mighty fun! I hope you get your van back soon and the whole virus thing gets stamped out pronto!

Duck is my favourite meat, and I usually have roast duck on Christmas Day. However, last year, I decided to splash out and had a goose instead - big mistake, huge!

My campervan has been further delayed due to parts not coming through from Germany in a timely manner.

She was supposed to be finished in October 2020, so a few more weeks will fly past in no time - the wait is nearly over.

I shall camp in the van parked outside my house, so that I can get used to her first before I take her out further afield, electricity and water supply at the ready.

I have been in touch with the company carrying out the conversion, and she is looking very nice, especially the kitchen. I would say that, as it is nearly entirely my own design, my mini home from home! :lol-2:

My hubby is buying me a pearl necklace for Valantine's Day. From Pearl Source. An 18 inch Hanadama in Rose overtone 6.5-7mm with a 14ct yellow gold ball closure. Pearl Source is offering 14% off for Valantine's day. I got the earrings to match in December & decided that I had to have the necklace too=)2

You need to come back here and post pics!!!!

We always used to go out to dinner, but then the girls got old enough to want to join in. So for the last 5 years we have stayed at home, cooked a lovely 3 course dinner that we all agree on, and do small gifts. The mysterious '? & ?' always get the girls chocolates & a card, Mr T buys me flowers & maybe a small present, and I buy him a nice champagne & chocolates.

That sounds just so perfect! I send my god-kids cards, also, and they often send me flowers. It's such a sweet holiday!

We don't usually celebrate or do anything for valentines day. This year I decided it would be funny to get us matching underwear from meundies, so these are on the way. Hedgehog and platypus print.

I'm looking forward to DHs face when he realizes what I bought hahahahahaha

We've been married 11 years and have not really done too many gifts over the years. This year we decided that after 4 kids its time to start spending some cash on ourselves haha! So I've been trying to make a point of getting our selves something nice for each holiday just to feel a bit special. Zero pressure though because we each just find something we like and buy it and then joke that we did such a great job at knowing what to buy. Hubby hasn't chosen anything yet but my early v-day gift arrived today!! A rose gold diamond heart necklace and I love it!! I made a seperate post about it but any chance to show it off is fine by me :D

I’ve caught Covid (we’re both okay with no symptoms thankfully), so obviously we’re spending Valentine’s Day locked indoors. We probably would have even without catching it, though, so I’m not bummed. Our last day of quarantine is actually the 14th!

Found this darling band the other night:

I show it to the Mr., he of course immediately goes, “Do you want it for Valentine’s Day?” He’s too sweet, and has been trying so hard to keep me good spirits during our quarantine. It won’t get here until after the 14th but that’s okay, time isn’t real anymore anyways.

I’m having quite a bit of wine delivered tomorrow as part of his present :D Also unbreakable wine glasses as he is a klutz.

Maybe Sunday night we’ll order sushi... :lickout:

I know it'd be totally creepy to snap a pic of his face when he sees em. So if you don't mind posting a meme later that best captures "his look," I'd greatly appreciate it.

And for us, we don't celebrate V-day either. Mostly b/c my bday is 2 days before that. Soooo, this year my DH will be making me freshly baked orange-cranberry cookies. And I already bought myself two sapphire bands.

So funny you should say this! We typically don’t do anything for Valentine’s but this year and last I have really needed things to look forward to. Everything is still closed here and we are staying in, but I’ve bought special chocolates and we will definitely enjoy a nice meal at home with wine.

Your plans sound lovely. I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Im getting my wifey4ever a 2 pack of big rolls of parchment paper and she is getting me a 2lb bag of grape suckers. lol

We are having a formal sit down meal with our children, party planning is one of the things getting my 5 year old daughter through lockdown! We are decorating our dining room, I have bought some heart shaped chocolate for everyone and then we are doing a secret valentines for fun.
This weekend is my husbands birthday and I am about to put on an r2-d2 dress on as said daughter as planned a Star Wars themed birthday party!

Your daughter sounds like a delight! Good for you for finding the energy to support her and lift spirits in this way!!

Haha we went to Trader Joes yesterday and both of us bought Valentine's Day cards...haha you cannot beat 99 cent cards. So romantic.
But what we write on the card is romantic that I can promise. :)

We've been snowed in these last few days so I've been making homecooked meals way more than usual. So of course I've totally run out of steam by dinner time tonight. Guess we're having Costco chicken bakes for Valentine's Day tonight!

We had a nice lunch from a local market that makes amazing restaurant quality prepared food. My husband got flowers which I wasn’t expecting. We’ll enjoy them all week. I hand painted a card for him.
He has a collection which he treasures. Like others, we express our love dozens of times a day, so today was not much different from any other day. It was a sweet day all around.

I picked up some yellow roses yesterday and dug out one of the kids' old Vermont Teddy bear and placed that on the kitchen table. Today we had fried fish tacos with salsa and chips. Dessert was flan and tres leche cake. It was supposed to be churros but the restaurant messed up our order. I did buy some chocolates last week but that was eaten that day:lol:

Well it was yeaterday here
i did get a kiss and Borris and Tibby gave Gary a big jar of gerkins
Even though we don't do presents i like to do something even if its just a small acknowledgment
i made bread and baked spicy sussages in it
(It did not cross my nind this was slightly falloc)

From the mom's cook book thread i made the retro 1960s red jello inside a can of sliced pinnaple with a dollop of cottage cheese (not overly succesful but not too disgusting either)

For dimner i was planning a roast pork but Gary said he wasn't hungry
becsuse i had also baked pesto and ham rolls for lunch with a little chilie pie
so we just had the packet chocolate mouse ...with more pinnaple

We didn't do much for Valentines Day, but hubby bought me a card and flowers. I tried to talk him into just picking a card at the store and handing them to read to each other (and not buying them). He agreed but failed to tell me he had bought me a card last month. So now I feel like a total jerk for not getting him one. I love cards but I can't bear to throw them out so I have boxes full. That man buys me a card for everything and writes the sweetest things in them.
At least we didn't buy each other gifts. We are in saving mode after buying a second home in AZ to visit the grandkids.
