Okay, I mentioned this in another thread but that thread was started with a completely different topic so I''m devoting an entire thread to an issue that is bugging me as I look for the perfect setting.

I recently purchased an A Cut Above, 1.01 carat princess cut diamond from Whiteflash. They told me to make sure that the v-tipped prongs are used in the setting that I choose because they protect the most fragile part of the princess cut stone; the "delicate" corners. Does anyone know why a lot of the designer settings use the round prongs and not the v-tipped for princess stones? Vatche, for example, is one of them. I like the Vatche x-prong for princess but I don''t want to spend that much on a setting while compromising durability.

Here is an example of the v-tipped prongs from superbcert.

Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Do you think that Whiteflash''s information is correct? Do you know of any designers who use the v-tipped prongs for princess stones in their settings?

You see, now this is interesting to me. Whiteflash uses the round prongs on their x-prong for princess as well.

However, for their basic setting for the princess cut, they use the v-tipped prongs.

Oh man! Which one is better?

Their advice could have been stone specific. If you have a thin girdle or a very thin girdle, or a girdle that is thin of very thin in SPOTS they might be suggesting the V prongs to protect the corners of your particular stone.

The girdle on my diamond is considered "thin." Oh no. Have I limited my choice in settings by getting this stone?
