Bah, I'm not even sure if this goes here.

The company I have been working with to have my e-ring made charged my wrong card and now my checking account is overdrawn by $600. I had given them my debit card info to pay for the shipping charges, but my diamond was purchased on my credit card. The order confirmation doesn't specify what card the charge will be made to... it just says "on credit card" or something like that. I can sort of understand. The purchase timeline was kind of like this:

First purchase: Debit card - Shipment charges to return diamond I didn't want.
Second purchase: Credit card - Purchase of diamond, used my free shipment to get the diamond to me
Third purchase: Debit card - Shipment charges to return diamond for setting

I don't remember if I specified the card to use for the second shipment charges, because it really didn't matter. I had plenty in my account to cover the shipment charges and I knew I would be making a big payment on my credit card that would pay for about half of my diamond and those shipment charges if they were charged to my credit card. What sucks is that if I hadn't made the big payment to my credit card yesterday, I would have been able to cover the payment for the setting out of my checking account. I just assumed (and this may be my fault) that they would use my credit card info, because it was used for the diamond purchased. The shipment charges are whatever... and I never scanned/e-mailed them my debit card info. I scanned/e-mailed them my credit card info... it seems that they would use my credit card info because of that!

Justin, can you contact them and ask them to refund your debit card and redo the transaction on your CC?

I probably can but not today. They are closed on weekends.

On a side note, this isn't meant to be a vendor bashing thread. I'm really in a "Oh crap, what do I do now" mindset. I've only overdrawn my account once before and that was 4 or 5 years ago and by a very small amount. I'm hoping that this will not affect my credit and that I will not have to pay fees out the wazoo. I'm supposed to be leaving to go on a family trip in 45 minutes for the weekend and I don't want to have to spend forever on the phone with the bank today. I guess I might have to.

I'm just sharing my distress with the community - only people with me right now are my girlfriend and her family. I don't want to share my e-ring purchase troubles with them. :)

Justin, try calling your bank to explain the situation, these things happen and once they know that it wasn't deliberate they will be understanding and work with you, especially as you have a good record with them.

Do try the vendor to see if they can refund to your debit card and complete the transaction on the CC, someone might be around to help you.

Generally a single overdraft will not affect your credit negatively. I don''t know how the fees work at your bank, but mine assesses the overdraft charge just one time as long as you don''t have any other transactions process once the account is overdrawn. I don''t think it''s typical practice to assess a daily overdraft charge on the same transaction, but your bank should be able to clarify.

Hopefully you''re able to get things straightened out next week. Enjoy your weekend and good luck!

Bummer. Talk to the bank. Make sure you don''t have other debit transactions or checks coming through. You don''t want another overdraft cause it''ll cause a 2nd fee.

Try to have a good weekend!!

You might try having the vendor contact the bank, as well. If they tell the bank it was a erroneous charge and reverse it, the bank will probably credit you back the fees with no problem.
