I was just at the post office 1 hr ago. I was trying to mail back my ring to WF to have them resize the ring for me. I used registered mail and insured the package. He seemed a little nervous when he saw that I insured the box for something like $7500. The agent used brown tape to seal my box. However, he didn''t finished sealing it, and he told me to seal it myself then go back to him (because he said many customers were waiting). At that point, I paid for the everything already ($31). So I seal it, and went back to him. Another customer was there, I gave the agent the box, and was waiting for him to put stamps all over the brown tape. But he didn''t do it. He said he would do it later. Last time I was at the post office to mail the stone back to GOG, the agent did everything in front of me. After I came back to my office, I checked USPS'' website to see if my package was "accepted"... there is no record of my package. Last time, I checked their website, my package was shown as "accepted" at the station right away.

Now, I am kind of worried that something may go wrong. Am I over reacting to the situation? I am keeping all my receipt and his clerk # is on the receipt too. Am I covered? should I go back and ask to see the package? This may make them feel that I am crazy or something.

Maybe just a wee bit.

I''ve mailed things off in this fashion many times. Sometimes they stamp it in front of me, sometimes they don''t (if they are busy). And just because it isn''t showing on the site doesn''t mean much either. Be patient, it''s really still early, and the PO can be slow.

I''m sure everything will be fine!

Hmm, can someone explain why shipping registered mail is so cheap?

I paid 40 dollars to ship to texas from arizona with 3800 for insurance.

I just wanted to say that the USPS now has a new policy that they cannot place your items in a box or envelope or tape up the parcel. I learned this the other day when I brought in a box that just needed the very top taped, but I hadn''t done it yet because I was waiting to see if it would fit in a flat-rate box or not. He told me that I would have to buy a $4.00 roll of tape from them and tape it myself since they are no longer allowed to do it (a liability issue).

Just wanted to say that might be why he told you to do it yourself, although I''m not sure why they said it was because there was a long line...

I wouldn''t worry too much - it will take a while for your package to show up on their tracking system. When I dropped off my package, I asked them about the stamping and they said they''d do it in the back. It worried me a bit but my package got there just fine. Anyway, you have your receipt so you should be fine.

Registered mail is cheap because it takes forever and a day to get there.

This is true. The USPS is typically very careful with these packages. They''re signed-for at each station and secured in a locked area when held for the next stage of transport. USPS tracking is also notoriously unlike FedEx and UPS - where you can almost track the drivers'' coffee breaks.

Please don''t be concerned. I have shipped many high value items this way and each time the clerk does things a little differently. The package will be kept in a locked box and each time it''s handled, it will be logged.

In fact, my mother worked for the USPS for 15+ years and assured me that it''s the most secure transport available. She once saw a package come through her post office insured for $1 million!

USPS tracking info is awful and you may not see an accepted status until tomorrow morning. The package may take up to a week (technically they say up to 2 weeks, though the longest we''ve ever had to wait is 7 days).

don''t worry, they mite be slow but USPS reigster mail is the safest way to ship valuables.

I''ve sent a couple of high dollar items ($25,000) registered mail and with great success. As unnerving as it may seem to see the clerk be so casual with your package, they are bound to follow to the steps with lock and key every step of the way.
My local USPS tapes it up for with this brown tape and stamps every seam. I also kindly let them know that I''ll wait here at the counter until I see them go to lock up the parcel in their safe.
Yes, it''s nerve-wracking, but reliable.

Thanks for reassuring me. I feel better now that I see my package is in the "acceptance" status. My uneasiness comes from reading many people''s items got stolen while in transportation.
