Dear members, I must ship a colored stone to someone in Southern California (I am in N. Cal). The price is $2700. I know how to pack but don't know what is the best company at the moment  I used FedEx 2nd Day 2 times several months ago, declared value was $1000 each time. FedEx doesn't allow me to insure the package, only declare the value (or something like that). I never used USPS before but heard they allow to insure the goods. Any recommendations please? Thank you so much for each word of wisdom.:love::love:

USPS insured with tracking and signature receipt. Used then many times. So far so good.

For something of that value I’d USPS Priority Express and specify that only the addressee can sign for it. Also - use a big outer box. The dollar value shows up on the label, for reasons that defy all logic, and small box + high dollar value screams jewellery!!

If you use the USPS click and ship website facility - the reference ID that you can fill in that’s supposedly “only for your reference” also shows up on the label, so don’t put anything descriptive in that field!

Agree with @Slick1 and @yssie I ship using USPS Priority Mail Express (overnight so less hands on it) and signature required. And when packing I use lots of boxes to make it appear larger so no one thinks it is jewelry.

Thank you so much! Your responses as well as another person's thread helped me to make my decision. I definitely will ship the stone in multiple boxes making the package look BIG, and will pay for insurance covering the whole value. USPS Express overnight and signature required. :kiss2:

I use registered mail with usps. Slow, but very safe.
