if i see a diamond that is 7.33 x 7.41 x 4.33, i understand that the difference between 7.33 and 7.41 should not exceed .7. right? well where does the 4.33 fit in? in other words, how do i know if the last dimension of 4.33 is "within range?" mathmathically speaking...

thanks,
sharon

Sevans5108, last measurement number is a total depth in mm. If you divide this number to average diameter, you'll get total depth %. In your case: 4.33 / 7.37 = 58.8%

Total depth is just one of the parameters that should be evaluated along with the others such as table size, crown and pavilion angles, girdle, etc.

For example, increasing of the table size decreases total depth when crown, pavilion and girdle are kept the same.

You have to post other numbers along with total depth in order to evaluate proportions. You can also plug your numbers into Cut Adviser or GIA Facetware

thank you very much. that is a great help!............sharon
