I''m in the UK and bought mine on Ebay - the Ultra 3800 Sonic.

They are about £26 BIN plus postage costs.

I was used to the industrial tank ones we had in the factory I used to design for, and this one obviously takes longer, but the effect is the same.

Ok, not to harp on a point....but the `whole` of my ring sparkles and scintilates thus obscuring the finer details of the design. The metal almost becomes invisible. Its not just the main diamond that is super sparkly, but the whole ring!!!!

And I do think my diamonds cut makes it prone to looking dull and foggy. The super large table with a low crown height seems to attract dirt and totally block the light going through the diamond. But, when the top of the diamond is us cleaned, it is like a light show.

Before having my us machine my ring must have been constantly dirty despite my attempts in cleaning it.

I have also noticed that when a diamond is wet it looks amazing. My diamond looks similar when it has been in the us as when it is wet!!!!
Sharon - I can relate to your story.

I have a well-cut 1.5 ct F VS2 purchased about 8 years ago now with a shallower than ideal crown angle. I quickly noticed it looked absolutely terrible unless it was kept super-clean. My stone has tiny pinpricks of light (sort of like looking at city lights at night) and they go out after a day or two of normal wear. Since my setting is inert platinum, I simply keep a solution of ammonia and water in the bathroom, and I drop my ring into that whenever it is not being worn. A quick rinse and brushing in the morning, dry it on a towel, and I''m ready to go. Whenever I take it into the jeweler for a professional cleaning, I get compliments on having the cleanest ring they ever see come in.

After discovering PS, I looked into trading it in on an ideal cut. A local jeweler was happy to take my stone on trade-in, and offered an ideal cut H SI1 of the same size for only an additional $10K. I quickly decided that paying an additional $10K, going down two color grades and one clarity grade, just so I could walk around with a dirty diamond was not a great offer. So, I saved my money and I keep on soaking my diamond and it stays beautiful and sparkly.

Enjoy your beautiful ring!
