Hi Guys, just thought I would give you some closure on my 4 carat princess ring that I was going to get reset. Well, an odd set of circumstances put a halt to that plan. Weeks went by and no word from my jeweller. So I pop in unannounced and he would not show me my diamond or the ring in progress/ wax etc. Basically told me to go and wait for phone call. So I rang the next day and explained that this was not something that I was going to wait indefinately for as my h. did not know of these plans and I didnt feel comfortable leaving my ring somewhere for so long. For me the time and the not being allowed to see my ring were red flags. The red flag was their attitude and manner towards me more than the time factor.
So anyway, sure enough, when I finally got to see the progress it was very disappointing. I think the fatal error was trying to use an existing mount and modify it for a 4 carat. They had to really change the integrity of the innitial design, open up the band to accomodate a too big stone, change the proportions of what would have worked on a 1 carat stone. And the prongs were a disaster. The diamond was sitting so high up it was like a joke. Of course someone thoght I wanted it set as high as possible even though it was written in the notes`to be set low as possible`. And btw, how many people want the diamond set high as possible....because thats pretty high I can tell you, and it doesnt look great!!!
So now the ring feels uncomfortable because they had to cut it and move the side diamonds more around to the back, it looks bulky and oldfashioned and the prong/ head design is not blending with the band, plus my diamond is about 2 feet tall!!!! Trainwreck!!! So, now that Im older and wiser, I know when to cut my losses and I pointed out everything that was wrong and asked them to reset my diamond back. So out I walked with my old ring, which didnt look so bad compared to what was being made.
Now, the exciting part. My ultrasonic cleamer has brought my ring to life. It practically spits out fire balls and is like a permanent disco with pin prick glitter all over the surface of the ring. The basic shape and edge of the ring almost become irrelivent with the amount of sparkle that moves across the ring from every angle. The rb halo is finally doing what I had envisioned it would do and the princess also seems to hold its own.
I play with my toy about 10 times a day, and it really has moved my ring into looking like it in a very high quality class. Whereas I got compliments before even I cant take my eyes off it now!!! FWIW, it did not look so alive before I got the machine. It actually looks like the cut has to be good to be so scintilating and firey. It is like an icy white stone with rainbow holigraphic glitter all over it!!!!
So for now, I have the remodling $ to put towards another project!!!!
