Hi , Urgent opinion required please , I have 5 ASETS from 2 different suppliers , the diamonds are all pretty much the same size , but some are priced higher than others , all are within my budget....

But please can you give me your opinion as to which are your top 3 diamonds , I have one I really like the look of , but I am a complete novice , I read and digested about colours in ASETS etc so I have a basic understanding...But I have 24 hours while they hold these diamonds for me while I decide which one to go for...

Please let me know your top 3 if possible , or your favourite one , perhaps letting me know why you like your choice / choices.
This would be a big help in giving me the confidence in buying the right diamond for my GF's engagement ring for her Christmas present :) The setting is platinum .

TIA :)diamond_aset_collection.jpg

Just looking at asets, my favorite is number 3. A lot of red spread evenly across the stone. Can you post photos too?

No, there is not. It was abused by way too many and was removed some years ago, for the absolute betterment of the forum.

Are you aware you are comparing different cuts of Princess? Some have 4 chevrons and it appears diamonds 2 and 4 appears to have 3 chevrons.

Hi , thank you for your reply , no i am a complete novice , what is the difference in the cuts ? 3 of the stones are GIA(1,3 & 5) and 2 of them are AGS (2 & 4)

I seem to like number 3 the most , would that be a good choice ? what difference does the qty of Chevrons have on the diamond ?

Help and advice welcomed :)

Re: Urgent opinion required please,I have 5 ASETS to choose

But they are all Princess cut 100 %

Re: Urgent opinion required please,I have 5 ASETS to choose

may I ask- why are you buying a stone with such high color and clarity? Is it a cultural thing?

Hi Neil , i think i have been asked that before but not sure what the question really means.....i am from the U.K ,caucasian white christain male , i hope thats no too much info , based on me getting the whole question wrong....

But i assume , it is best to try and buy the best , what would you reccomend , the ring setting i already have , it is suitable for a princess cut diamond upto the size of 6mm square .

:)

Re: Urgent opinion required please,I have 5 ASETS to choose

I'm liking 2 and 3. The smaller the crown usually the nicer the cut. Hard to find the smaller crowns on princess cuts though.

A 4x4mm stone is really tiny. If you will post your budget for the stone the experts on PS can find you the largest nicest stone in your budget. E color is over kill in the whiteness category. A G color will be very white. Plus in a princess cut and that small you can probably go for a SI1 clarity.

Since you are a novice I would highly suggest you post your budget and let the experts in here find you a stone that will face up larger in your budget. CUT is king. The lower the depth the larger the stone will face up.

Good luck in your search.

The reason people ask if its a cultural issue is because in some cultures, like in many Asian cultures, high color and clarity are valued. In other cultures they are important but not near as important. for example, in America, for the most part, carat is valued over color and clarity.

Of course, cut is king. That's what makes a diamond sparkle.

Color is important, but you do not NEED a colorless diamond. G-I diamonds will appear white as well, especially in the sizes you would be able to afford. It will LOOK white.

Clarity is another thing you can compromise on, as you can find VVS stones that are eye clean, and SI1 stones that are eye clean. Meaning when you look at them, you don't see an inclusion. If you cant see an inclusion, does it matter if its eye clean at SI1 or eye clean at VVS1? For some people it does, and that's fine. But for some people, sense you are rarely telling people the clarity of your diamond its more a matter of how it LOOKS, vs necessarily what is on the GIA report

Carat is as big as you can afford, really, or are comfortable with. Also, in your case, what will fit in your setting.

Really, typically, its a balance of what you can get for your money. So if culturally its important to have really high color and clarity, go for that, but if its important to have a well cut, eye clean, white looking diamond, you do not need such high color and clarity

Hi Neil , thank you for your informed reply , most important thing to me , is that my GF will like the ring , this is my first attempt and hopefully last attempt at buying a engadgement ring , But i of course would like the best bang for my buck , because i am buying online , i guess i am aiming for what in my own mind but a complete novice is something like a safe bet , do you have any reccomendations to diamonds with ASETS that i can look at online for princess cut , i have tried whiteflash.com , but i find there prices are higher and pretty much the same size of diamond in m.m even when the carrat is higher

Based on looking at 3 sites , james allen , whiteflash and bluenile , i seem to find regardless , pretty much from 1300 - 2000 usd the sizes are very similar , but higher carrat ...

Hi Neil , Thank you , but daft question , even though it is bigger in carrat size its mm size is similar or at least to a novice ...what would be the advantage of buying this diamond over the E GIA number 3 diamond , i know its slighty bigger but it is a I for colour

If i was to see these two diamonds side by side , the number 3 from my Asets and the brian diamond , would i be able to tell the difference in size.

The GIA diamond number 3 - E is 1340 usd by the way .

that I is 14% larger face up size than the E. For me, as princess face up small, every bit of size helps.

if you think color is more important, that's of course fine, but an I will be very white at that size.

Just another option for you...
