Dear All,
Once again, I am calling in your expert advice for an urgent matter !
I just bought a diamond last week : 1.85 G VS1. The stone is beautiful (triple VH on Brilliantscope + 9.8 on Isee2). See below the idealscope image which features beautiful arrows, and black areas between the arrows (lower girdle facets length of around 80%)
I've also seen a video showing the stone in comparison with another one with the same characteristics of size and colour but different lower girdle facet length. I loved this stone and bought it readily but now I have second thoughts...
On the video, I realised my stone appeared somewhat smaller than the other stone featured despite the same diameter...First I thought it came from the differences in flashes of light between both stones displayed.
But this thing kept nagging at my mind and after reading yesterday night an in-depth article from Jonathan, I realised that this spread loss in appearance comes from the upper girdle facets angle.
In order to avoid most of the leakage in the perimeter of the stone (resulting thus in a spread deficit in appearance) the ugf angle should be ideally between 40 to 43° with a preference for an angle below 43. My stone has an average of 43.2° (some facets being as much as 44.3°). This feature is shown in the idealscope image (see left of the black line).
This is precisely what I saw on the video...
Jon does not have a stone with similar size and carachteristics and price right now so I wouldn't know what stone to buy instead.
I live overseas and GOG went the extra mile to have my stone shipped directly to Leon Mege for the setting (3 stone with pear sides). The stone will be shipped on Wednesday to Leon.
Now I am really confused. I am sure the stone is gorgeous but I don't want it to appear noticeably smaller than its real diameter ! At the same time, I don't want to cause trouble for something that IRL is maybe negligible in comparison with the other great characteristics of the stone...?
What should i do ??
