Dear All,

Once again, I am calling in your expert advice for an urgent matter !

I just bought a diamond last week : 1.85 G VS1. The stone is beautiful (triple VH on Brilliantscope + 9.8 on Isee2). See below the idealscope image which features beautiful arrows, and black areas between the arrows (lower girdle facets length of around 80%)

I've also seen a video showing the stone in comparison with another one with the same characteristics of size and colour but different lower girdle facet length. I loved this stone and bought it readily but now I have second thoughts...

On the video, I realised my stone appeared somewhat smaller than the other stone featured despite the same diameter...First I thought it came from the differences in flashes of light between both stones displayed.

But this thing kept nagging at my mind and after reading yesterday night an in-depth article from Jonathan, I realised that this spread loss in appearance comes from the upper girdle facets angle.

In order to avoid most of the leakage in the perimeter of the stone (resulting thus in a spread deficit in appearance) the ugf angle should be ideally between 40 to 43° with a preference for an angle below 43. My stone has an average of 43.2° (some facets being as much as 44.3°). This feature is shown in the idealscope image (see left of the black line).

This is precisely what I saw on the video...

Jon does not have a stone with similar size and carachteristics and price right now so I wouldn't know what stone to buy instead.

I live overseas and GOG went the extra mile to have my stone shipped directly to Leon Mege for the setting (3 stone with pear sides). The stone will be shipped on Wednesday to Leon.
Now I am really confused. I am sure the stone is gorgeous but I don't want it to appear noticeably smaller than its real diameter ! At the same time, I don't want to cause trouble for something that IRL is maybe negligible in comparison with the other great characteristics of the stone...?

What should i do ??

link to the stones page?
In the aset as long as it is red and not too much green over the ugf its fine.
vids will overemphasis the difference as its mono and not stereo like human vision.

Its fine in my opinion.
Id buy a similar cut stone.

Talk to Jon about it on Tuesday.

Thank you for your help Storm.

I talked to Jon last week about the stone just before I bought it. I did not mention this specific issue but when I asked about the overall quality of this stone, Jon said he would buy it for his own wife

That is why I bought it speedily. But since I never saw the stone IRL, only on the video, I just want to make sure I get an awesome rock that I will enjoy everyday without second thoughts.

according to the gem file the DiamCalc stereo brightness is 1.01 whole crown 1.01 table.
If it was an issue the whole crown light return would be lower.

The reference ideal tolk scores a .99 and .99 on the same metric.
So its a very bright diamond,

Thanks again for putting my mind at rest Storm !

Hey Ellen

I am sooo impatient to see it too ! You remember the poll I did last month to decide between an eternity ring or a 3 stone ring ? So I made the move and followed the advice of the majority of the pricescopers who leaned towards the 3 stone

We just bought the diamond last week but I needed reassurance about the stone and as always I turned to you all for sound advice

My stone is the one on the left hand side...What do you think of it ?
I think it''s just as gorgeous as I thought it would be when I suggested it to someone else a few weeks ago.

(aren''t you glad they didn''t buy it?!)

I''d had my eye on that one for awhile, not to buy, just because it was such a great size, color and clarity. It''s stunning!

Oh I am so glad you love it !

Initially I wanted a E or F VS2 but there was nothing in the size range I wanted and so when I saw this one, which combined great optics and characteristics I jumped on it
