no...I bought a .75 F VVS2 for $3500 that is almost ideal.


question though...why the rush? It took me about 4 months with research to find the stone and the setting I designed because I couldn''t find one I liked. I still dont have the ring as its being built...

My EC which is .72 F VVS1 was well under $3000. It did take FI months to find though.

I think it''s doable. Not everyone is looking for an "ideal cut diamond". I think you could go down to a "good" down in color and down to a SI2/Clean I1 and it can still be beautiful. I think sometimes Pricescope "blinds you with the ideal" . MOST don''t have an ideal diamond and are perfectly happy with them! Sometimes ignorance is bliss!

not to rain on your parade, especially becuase this time of your life can be the best, exciting, loving and fun time possible, but why again do you need the ring so quickly?

Am I missing something? That one is nearly double your budget and is 3/4ct.

it might be a good time to have a conversation about realistic expectations. Tell her she can upgrade in a year or two when you can afford more. For now, get a great stone for your 2K, and get it somewhere with an upgrade policy!
 
i promised the ring and i want to get it so it is official and she saw this in the mall and liked the shine, is this a good deal? the lady selling said she can beat it to 3199 tx included

Ok. I''ll bite here. I don''t get it. Well kind of I do, but maybe you don''t, so I''ll help.

You start with, "We need a 1 ct ring for less than $2k today." Ok, cool. You get some great advice, people help you find reasonable stones that are well-cut which I promise would outperform what you saw at that brick & mortar store.

Then you come back and say you''re willing to step down to 0.75ct and increase the budget to $3200.

Now THAT is a whole different story. Instead of digging around in the outcasts (for whatever reason) of the well-cut round brilliants, you''re now in the kind of price point where you can get a truly excellent stone.

If you are willing to wait a day or 2 and do your homework, you can certainly get a ring from one of the vendors that the kind denizens of this forum will help you find for under your price point that will blow anything you''ve seen in person out of the water.

If you''re not willing to do your homework, just ask Lorilei (or one of the other kind super-helpers) to help you pick the ring and bam it will arrive on your doorstep and you can get pop the question then.

If you just NEEEED to have it today, then yes, you are probably buying a good diamond. If you want to give her the best you can, $$ wise, then I suggest you just tell us the real budget - is it $3200 or $2000, and the *real* size requirements (why does she care what it weighs? Doesn''t she just care about the sparkle), and one will be put together and will outperform anything that jeweler at the mall can get you.

That''s just my 2 cents, though. Good luck in your search. I know how exciting and fun this is.
 
There are several rounds on blue nile around .80-.85 with fantastic cuts near 1700-1800, add a simple settign at 400 and your there. Not 1ct. but very respectable and will look great. I rather give just under 1ct that she could be proud to wear vs. being able to say it''s 1ct. but looks like you don''t want to even show it off.....ymmv

Just refine your search there, in those parameters, and you will find what I saw. Good luck!
 
I understand lots of girls want to say they have a carat. Most of them have NO idea what a carat actually costs or even what it looks like. I had a friend recently wave a engagement ring in front of me and say that she was sure it must be a carat, that it looked like a carat. it was not more than .50 or so , I''m sure (though it was quite pretty).

I have seen one carat for under $2000 but you have to sacrifice something. You are not going to get H color. I have seen M color.

Mondera has others in this price range. A nicely cut M isn''t going to be snow white, but many of them are very pretty.
If she like a yellow gold setting, it will make the stone look whiter.

People will kill me for saying this on this forum, but another thing--many girls when they say they want 1 carat will be happy with 1 carat TOTAL WEIGHT. Because it''s just a number to them to tell their friends. Of course it''s inaccurate, but that''s okay IRL. So if she has to have an H, maybe you can get smaller, a nice .75 and set it with a lot of other little diamonds so that the ring total weight is 1 carat.

I actually UNDERSTAND that she wants the ring right away. i waited 7 years to get engaged to my current husband of 25 years and you''d better believe that I wasn''t going to come home without a ring the FIRST DAY that we went engagement ring shopping, after all that time. I didn''t know boo about diamonds, came home with a pretty 1/3 carat that I still love, and that I recently had appraised and learned was about an H, VS clarity. It''s sparkly even next to my AGS0 anniversary ring, so it must be well-cut. But that was the 1980''s and no one expected to get a big diamond because the price of diamonds had just exploded. People had 1/4 carat and were very happy with that--and even smaller. I know some people that, like me, won''t give up wearing their original small ring, even if they later get another one. But I understand that girls have different ideas nowadays and I think its sweet that you want to make her happy AND keep in your budget.

Congratulations to the two of you by the way, may you be married many happy years.
Maybe you won''t have to rush so much when you buy the 25th anniversary ring for her.
 
I''ve been married for over 13 years. I can tell you the best part about my life is that we never make hasty decisions. That way, we always know we did and got what we wanted. And it is very satisfying. Immediate gratification? I save that for food and movies. Heck I don''t even buy shoes on the spur of the moment. The thrill of the hunt is sometimes the best part.
 
I agree with alkaloids... this thread is frustrating me. It seems that what the OP is asking for, and what he comes back with each time, are of completely different parameters. Lovestruck1, you''ve gotten excellent, thoughtful, knowledgeable advice here. Why, for heaven''s sake, don''t you accept the help you''ve requested? As far as I can see, you''ve not responded directly to ANY of the specific suggestions you''ve been given. I understand the excitement and desire to get on with it – I really do, and I am happy for you both – but, goodness, Man, you came here for looking for advice, why not take it? People here are on your side...

For me the first red flag is the fact that it's an EGL certed diamond, a lab known to be soft on grading so each diamond would need to be evaluated individually. Second flag is a color range of 5 grades, to me that's too big a range to gamble on. You could realistically be getting something much lower than a J I1.

If you really have $3200 to spend, we could find you a much nicer diamond for your money. If you want to buy what is likely to look like a piece of frozen spit, go ahead and buy the ring you linked to.

You aren''t making this easy. Your budget and size requirements are changing. What''s the bottom line you want to spend? Do you want a nice stone and setting or just something to put on a finger?
 
Do you have a costco near you? Seriously. I''d rather have just about anything from them than anything you''ve posted in this thread. And costco has a good return policy. A really good one.

Please take some of the advise here - go to a vendor rec''d here with a good upgrade policy - have them help you - get the PS discount by the way - all this can be done quickly. I see some people reporting that their search took months - no offense, but 4 months from my (surprise) proposal we were sitting looking at our beautiful wedding photos. But don''t buy something at the mall today - I really believe the ladies are pointing you in the right direction. Also, If you can spend $3000 comfortably (i''m not clear on this point) - then perhaps you should - get something you''ll be proud of.

Want to clarify what I think Motownmama is saying. You can get something to be proud of for 1000, 2000, 3000... and you can get something embarrasing for 10,000. It''s not how much you spend, it''s the time and effort you put into it.

I''d rather have someone propose to me with a plastic ring, and give me a date for the ring''s arrival, than to get that EGL stone you posted.
 
If you can actually spend $3000 instead of $2000, it will be easier to try to get you a nice stone close to the one carat mark.

I''m positive you can do better than that ring you linked.

Trust me and the rest of us. I honestly think you should slow down.

I had a friend whose requirement was 2 carats. Talk about hard to please!
Look around, and you can easily get a 2 carat diamond for under 10K.
She was very happy with the ring she got.
But that was until she realized many other "smaller diamonds" which had a MUCH higher brilliance, fire, and sparkle than hers.

For around the same price her bf spend, she could have got a 1.0 Carat, F VS2, H&A Ideal Cut, or even something along the lines of a 1.60 J VS2.

After some education, I'm sure most females would prefer a smaller more beautiful diamond than a bigger more dull diamond.

This is only 0.6 carats, but it is sure as heck going to be a lot more beautiful than a 1 carat under $2000.
